Hello from Primary 5
In our class this year we have 30 pupils – 13 girls and 17 boys. Our class teacher is Mrs Duncan. Mrs Cox teaches us Science each Wednesday.
Health and Wellbeing – In P.E. Mr Crookston is teaching us fitness and throwing & catching skills. We will continue to complete our Daily Mile each day and will try to do it in many different ways and styles ! We are learning about Growth Mindset and positive attitudes.
Maths – We are learning about Place Value, Rounding, Times Tables and the 4 operations of adding, subtracting, multiplication and division this term. We are also using our knowledge of Number Talk strategies to help us with this.
Literacy – We are learning our alphabetic code, phonemes and graphemes, parts of speech including verbs, adjectives and different types of nouns in grammar. We are learning about paragraphing, punctuation and presentation when writing and will be developing our writing skills using VCOP and the Talk for Writing programme. Our new class novel is, “The Firework Maker’s Daughter” by Philip Pullman which we are already really enjoying! We are also completing our Accelerated reading books each day and enjoy testing them too. This term in French we will be learning about words and phrases to use as well as reading and writing in French too.
Technologies – We are using the school I Pads and laptops for research and ICT / Maths skills.
Art – We are busy completing our designs for our own Christmas cards and designing the website banners for the school competition. We will also be learning how to mix secondary colours from the three primary colours.
IDL / R.M.E. – We are going to be learning about the six main world religions and sharing our learning with each other and presenting to other groups.
P5 Pupil Council – P5 are the Pupil Council. We are conducting surveys about our school and community and gathering information about what we see, hear and how we feel in school.
We are also keeping ourselves safe and our classroom clean by remembering to follow the values we want to keep – Ready Respectful and safe!
