Hello from Primary 5,
In our class this year we have 30 pupils – 12 girls and 18 boys. Our class teacher is Mrs Duncan. We also work with Mrs Cox, Miss McFarlane, and Mrs Connor too.
Health and Wellbeing – In P.E. we will be learning to improve our fitness and complete our circuits in quicker times each week. We are also really enjoying the lessons from P7 Junior Coaching Academy Leaders who are teaching us football skills, at the moment. We will be taking part in different athletic sports too. We do our Daily Mile and although the weather is quite warm now, we still need our outdoor jackets!
Maths – We will be learning about measure – volume, weight and length, data handling, the four operations and tessellation too. We are also learning how to multiply and divide using Number Talk strategies. We will continue to learn and practise our Times Tables and related division facts.
Literacy – We will be learning more grammar throughout this term. We are learning our spelling words and learning about prefixes and suffixes as per South Ayrshire Reads. We are still learning about paragraphing, punctuation and presentation when writing and will be developing our writing skills focusing on using more ambitious vocabulary and adjectives for description and learning to analyse characters from our class novel. We will continue to read our Accelerated reading books. We will be reading our new class novel, “Journey to the River Sea” by Eva Ibbotson and learning about The Amazon while we read.
STEM & Technologies – We are using the school I Pads and laptops for literacy, and for research and ICT / Maths skills. Our class topic is going to be The Roman Empire this term. Mrs Cox will be teaching us our science and Outdoor Learning this term on Wednesdays.
We are continuing to work as the Pupil Council to gather information about our school focusing on a follow up survey about what pupils See, Feel and Hear in our school on a daily basis and we will compare our results with information gathered in Term 1 We are so proud of ourselves raising over £860 for Comic Relief – Red Nose Day back in March and want to say a special thank you to everyone who contributed sweet treats !
We are looking forward to Sports Day and our novelty race is the sack race which we will start to try to perfect soon!
