Primary 4/5

P4/5 Term 1

Hello everyone and welcome to P4/5 term 1. This term we will be taking time to get to know each other through a range of health and well being activities which will focus on being “ready, respectful and safe” in class and around the school. As well as getting to know each other we will be learning how to form positive relationships with our peers.

In literacy we have a new book study called “The Midnight Fox” and we will continue to develop our reading and spelling through the South Ayrshire Reads program. We will complete a fiction and non fiction TalkforWriting activity which will focus on character description and information reports.

We begin this term looking at place value, rounding numbers, doubling, measure  and number talks in math. We will be learning by using concrete material, working in pairs and groups and completing independent calculations. We have already enjoyed learning through maths games and we are looking forward to trying some more!

We are very lucky to have a PE instructor for this term and next. He is focusing on fitness game, invasion games and target games. We are really enjoying the games so far. In addition, the P5s are excited to be going swimming this year. We look forward to hearing all about their experience.

Out topic this term will be around our book study, however towards the end of the term we will begin to look at “The Weather” which will be our first topic. We hope to use the outdoor classroom, which we are busy preparing, for lots of weather based learning.

Our laptop time will be spent exploring the wonders of Micro:bits, a small computer which can be coded to create lots of fun learning experiences. This could be the next big thing on the Christmas list this year!

Mrs Cox and Miss McFarlane will be exploring rights respecting schools, French and religious studies (David and Bar and Bat Mitzvah) this term. We are excited to find out more about these!
