P4/5 Term 4
Hello everyone and welcome to P4/5 term 4. This term we will have a slight change to teachers in class with Mrs Cox moving to another class and Miss McFarlane stepping in on a Friday. We will miss Mrs Cox but are happy that Miss McFarlane is going to be in class all day on a Friday.
In literacy we are reading a new class novel called The Amazing story of Adolphus Tips. This book is written in diary form, and we will be exploring how to write a diary in story writing lessons. We are also focusing on letter writing and have already planned and written one in class. In phonics our focus is prefixes and suffixes.
In maths we begin this term looking at money. We will be adding, calculating change, choosing the best deal and budgeting. We will be using these skills to organise an exciting event at the end of term.
Junior coaches from P7 led football lessons in PE last term and two more junior coaches have stepped up this term to lead tennis lessons. We are really enjoying it. As sports day takes place this term, we will be focusing on running and athletics. P5 will compete in the sack race and P4 will be skipping. We have already begun to practice for these events.
Our topic this term is bridges. We began by looking at beam bridges. The children made a spaghetti bridge and tested it for strength. We had great fun! Next, we will look at arch bridges, followed by suspension and cantilever bridges. We are looking forward to more experiments. In science we have been looking at the senses and how they work together to keep us safe.
Our laptop time this term will be research for a challenge to “invent” something using technology which will make the life of someone who needs support better.
