Primary 6

Welcome to Primary 6

Welcome to Primary 6! We are a busy and enthusiastic class of 31 pupils – 14 girls and 17 boys, and our teacher is Mrs Green.

This year, we will continue to develop our skills and confidence across the curriculum, always keeping our school values at the heart of everything we do: Ready, Respectful and Safe. We will build on our literacy and numeracy skills through a range of exciting and engaging methodologies, helping us to become independent learners who are ready to tackle new challenges.

Literacy

Throughout the year, we will explore some fantastic novels, including Kensuke’s Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo, The Nowhere Emporium by Ross MacKenzie and Street Child by Berlie Doherty. Our book studies will provide opportunities to develop our comprehension, vocabulary, discussion and critical-thinking skills.

We will also have plenty of opportunities to read for enjoyment, while continuing to develop our writing skills and experiment with different writing styles, genres and techniques.

Interdisciplinary Learning

Our topics throughout the year will allow us to develop a wide range of skills, knowledge and experiences. We will be encouraged to think creatively, solve problems, collaborate with others and become resilient learners. These experiences will help us build the skills we need not only for our continued journey through education, but also for the world of work. Our topics will be responsive to the pupil’s interests and to them to lead their own learning.

Music

Every Wednesday, we will be joined by our music specialist, Mr Thomson. We can’t wait to learn new songs and showcase some of the exciting music we create!

Exciting Opportunities

We will be taking part in:

  • Bikeability Level 2
  • Tennis tuition
  • Spirit of Sport
  • STEM projects
  • Meta Skills Challenges

These opportunities will help us develop teamwork, communication, problem-solving, physical skills and confidence while having lots of fun along the way.

Keep an Eye on Class Teams

Make sure you keep a look out on our Class Team throughout the year. We will be sharing some of the amazing work and learning that takes place in Primary 6, as well as providing access to our monthly homework grids. This is also an excellent place for us to share dates and information.

Happy 60th Birthday to Our School!

This is a very special year for our school as we celebrate its 60th birthday! Our new school building opened its doors in 1966, so we are delighted to be celebrating six decades of learning, friendship and memories.

We are looking forward to an exciting year filled with learning, challenges, creativity, teamwork and fun. We can’t wait to see what Primary 6 achieves!
