Term 1
Hello!
We are Primary 6 and our teacher this year is Mrs Green. We have 16 boys and12 girls in our class. All children are settling into their new learning environment and are keen to show they are ready, respectful, and safe.
- This term we will be exploring how to use descriptive language and figurative techniques to bring our writing to life. We will focus on building stronger sentences and improving our use of punctuation. Alongside this, we will continue with Accelerated Reading, aiming to complete 100 quizzes with scores of 70% or higher together to receive a class reward. We will further enhance our comprehension skills by reading and analysing, Kensuke’s Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo
- In Numeracy and Mathematics, we will be reading, writing, ordering, and comparing numbers up to at least one million. We will also look at rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100, 1000, 10,000 and 100,000, and adding and subtracting using formal written methods, and mentally. We will also be covering place value involving decimal fractions and on top of this we will be continuing to work on our times tables skills.
- Our IDL topic this term is ‘Survive and Explore’. We will be investigating the skills and knowledge needed to survive if we found ourselves stranded on an island, just like the main character in Kensuke’s Kingdom. Children will have the chance to carry out their own research on one of the countries Michael, the main character, visits, helping them to develop their geography skills and knowledge and understanding. Lots of fun outdoor learning will come from this topic; shelter building, filtration, and lots more.
- Our PE sessions this term will be Bikeabilty and this will be led by Mr McLeod and Peter from Dolphin House. This is grade 2 and children will be out and about in Coylton.
- Mr Thomson will be in every Wednesday to lead our singing lessons. We cannot wait to showcase our our work in December. This year songs are from ‘Oliver’.
- Miss McFarlane will be in every Monday to lead outdoor learning lessons.
Remember to ask P6 all about the exciting learning that is going on in our class. X will also keep you up to date with many of the fantastic things we will be doing.
