P4/5 Term 1
Hello everyone and welcome to P4/5 Term 1. Miss McFarlane and I are looking forward to getting to know the class through a range of fun activities.
In literacy we will be studying Bill’s New Frock by Anne Fine. This book tactless gender stereotypes. We hope to dispel the myths and encourage pupils to see the world from a different perspective as well introduce the possibility of careers that they may not have previously thought about. Our writing this term will be diary extracts as well as scientific research including fair testing.
In maths our focus will be shapes and place value, however we will also be recapping the 4 operations of adding, subtraction, multiplying and division. We hope to learn through technology and games as well as our science topics. We hope to provide challenge this term through problem solving activities.
In health and wellbeing our focus will be on relationships and internet safety. We will also be looking at our emotions and growth mindset.
In science we will have a mini topic based on forces and friction in celebration of the upcoming Ayrshow.
The class will learn some basic greetings in Gaelic this term. In PE we will be learning about fair play, turn taking and sportsmanship through games. We will be learning throwing techniques through the game of Petanque. Primary 5 will have swimming lessons this term.
Our expressive arts will be inspired from our class novel where the class will be learning about colour in art. They will write mini plays based on parts of the novel. P4 will have music lessons after the September holiday and throughout term 2.
During outdoor learning sessions, pupils will harvest and explore what we can cook with the vegetables grown in our outdoor classroom.
