PSE Resources

We are delighted to be working with HeadStrong to produce a new S1-6 Mental Health PSE Resource!  This resource is being designed taking into account what we know about mental health and wellbeing in Renfrewshire through data from the national HWB survey and also our main counselling service The-Exchange.

You can access the HeadStrong platform by clicking here.  Please note, this is a new link which will require you to set a new password.

This resource can only be accessed by Renfrewshire staff.  If you are interested in “It’s a Mental Health Thing” for your own authority, contact Julie Bell at julie@headstrongminds.com

As part of our suicide prevention approach in schools, we have a new resource to support raising awareness and opening up conversations with senior phase pupils.  You can access the resource by clicking here.

If you want to expand on suicide prevention inputs, Roman Kemp’s documentaries for the BBC would suit delivery in the senior phase.  Our Silent Emergency can be found on YouTube, The Fight for Our Lives is on BBCiPlayer.

The On Edge Self Harm Awareness Resource Pack is for teachers and professionals working with young people and has been developed in partnership with mental health and education professionals and funded by NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.  It includes teaching support materials and further information in the form of sign-posting to external resources and advice services, references and linked where relevant to the Curriculum for Excellence and other national guidance.  You can also find the NHSGGC Whole School Approach to Self-Harm Awareness document by clicking here.

To view the Learning About Self-Harm policy context, click here.  You can also access resources and supports from NHSGGC by clicking here.  This resource also includes a case study of our work in Renfrewshire Council.  The Scottish Government released its Self-Harm Strategy and Action Plan in December 2023.  This follows on from the suicide prevention strategy Creating Hope Together which is a 10 year strategy to reduce the suicide rate in Scotland.

In order to support you to have a conversation with a child/young person around self-harm, click here to access our new resource – “How to have a conversation about self-harm”.
