Mental Health and Wellbeing Policy

In response to the Scottish Government’s Mental Health Strategy 2017-27, all of Renfrewshire’s secondary schools will have a Mental Health and Wellbeing Policy in place by June 2022.  In order to support work across our establishments, Renfrewshire’s Mental Health and Wellbeing Action Group  have developed a policy template which establishments can then edit to suit their setting.  You can access the policy appropriate to your setting below.

This policy is supported by the NHSGGC 6 box model which provides a toolkit including examples of training for all staff supporting children and young people in establishments to identify good practice and areas for development.   In order to support this, the action group have also provided examples of good practice using the model.

The policy also links to our new guidance on self-harm and suicide.

The Scottish Government have just launched their Children and Young People’s Mental Health – Professional Learning Resource. The resource takes a whole school approach centred around prevention and early intervention to promote positive mental health and wellbeing for everyone in the school community.  It aims to provide school staff with knowledge and understanding of mental health and wellbeing in schools and a range of opportunities to learn about experiences and advice from practitioners and young people.
