Letter from Mr Cairns – Isolating Pupils and Home Learning -15th September 2021

Dear Parent/Carer,

With the rising number of young people in the community testing positive for Covid, and also those having to take PCR tests or having to self-isolate, there has been an increasing demand for ‘work’ from parents for their children who may be required to isolate at home but are well enough to continue to learn. Following discussions with staff in school, teachers will upload the relevant class materials as soon as they have time. How this will be done will vary across the school as clearly it is more challenging for young people to engage in certain activities, such as practical work, from home.

I know that these remain challenging times for all young people and parents but wish to assure you that the staff at Cumbernauld Academy will continue to do all we can to support every young person regardless of circumstances.

Thank you for your continued support

School Art Packs

Could all pupils who are no longer studying Art & Design in S3/4/5 please return the Art Packs that were issued to them during last session.

We are aware that a lot of these will have been used with varying frequency, but returning them will allow us to ensure that our new S1 students can be given similar opportunities moving forward.

The Art Packs can be returned to any teacher in Art & Design.

NLC – Survey on Building and Facilities at Cumbernauld Academy

As part of the ongoing evaluation on the design of Cumbernauld Academy, NLC would like to invite all stakeholders to take part in a survey on the design of the building post occupancy.  The survey is open to parents/carers, community users and any pupil who wishes to pass on their comments.  The survey will close on 17th September 2021. The link to the Survey is below:

Update from HT – 4th September 2021

Dear Parent/Carer,
Just a short update on the Covid situation in the school. Every measure we can think of is being taken to ensure we limit the spread of the virus within Cumbernauld Academy. Students have been excellent at sanitising their hands and most students have managed to bring their own face-coverings. However, we are now issuing more than 200 temporary face-coverings each day which is less than brilliant for the environment, Any support you can offer at home regarding bringing their own masks would be greatly appreciated.
Currently we have 12 students who have tested positive in Cumbernauld Academy and 2 members of staff. All are now self-isolating at home and we wish them a speedy recovery. I will keep you all updated with this situation.
Have a lovely weekend
Mark

Important Information from HT – 1st September 2021

Dear Parent/Carer,

I hope that you are well and that you managed to have a nice summer break.

I am writing to inform you that in the short term I have been asked to provide additional leadership support to another Secondary school in the Local Authority.  Please be assured that I will continue in my position as Head Teacher of Cumbernauld Academy, ably supported by my leadership team, but will be splitting my time between both establishments.  I will continue to link with my leadership team and will be available to support, as necessary.

I appreciate your understanding and support.

Kind regards

Mark
