At the present time Cumbernauld Academy remains open and learning and teaching is continuing uninterrupted as staff levels remain high. As I walked around the school today I witnessed excellent learning and teaching in action. In particular there was a strong focus on preparations for planned SQA exams in place. As with all other North Lanarkshire Schools, we will continue to follow the NHS guidelines around Coronavirus.
However, should the situation around school closures change or if young people require to self-isolate, the school has in place contingency plans for study/revision which you can access by clicking on the link below

Passwords are required for GLOW, SCHOLAR and EDMODO. Please ensure that your child has the required passwords which have been issued to them by the school already. In cases where your child does not have the relevant password please contact their Pupil Support Teacher. Details are available from the Pupil Support area on this website.
Thank you for your continued support and for the continuing donations to the food bank. It is good to know that in a time of crisis the community of Cumbernauld Academy works to support the most vulnerable.
We have received notification from New College Lanarkshire & Glasgow Clyde College that they have suspended all face to face teaching. As a consequence they have postponed all Foundation Apprenticeship work placements until further notice. In the meantime pupils affected by this decision are required to speak with Mr Byers for advice on which study class to attend. Please click on the links below for further details.
Foundation Apprenticeships Placements Cancelled Until Further Notice
Further to the earlier correspondence, the Parent Council meeting scheduled for tomorrow (18/03/20) has now been cancelled.
Cumbernauld Academy will be offering Easter school this session between Monday 6th April and Wednesday 8th April. Clearly ongoing concerns regarding Convid-19 will determine if this goes ahead. Any changes to this arrangement will be placed on this website. Please click on the link below to access the Easter School timetable.
CUMBERNAULD ACADEMY EASTER SCHOOL 2020
The Parent Council meeting scheduled for 18/03/20 is going ahead as planned at 6.45pm in the school. We look forward to welcoming all participants.
At a time of crisis our community values and strength lead us to think of and act on behalf of our most vulnerable. While the next few weeks may well be challenging for many of us, for some the prospects are extremely bleak. Therefore we invite you to hand in to the assembly hall tinned and dried goods that will help people in need. Local food banks are urgently requesting the following
tinned fruit (400gms)
tea bags (80’s)
dried pasta (500gms)
UHT milk (1 litre)
Really anything non-perishable will be useful. Please offer whatever you can and leave it at the back of the assembly hall from Monday morningonwards. Your help is greatly appreciated.
This coming Wednesday morning, 9th March, there will be an S4 assembly detailing the exam revision programme for the forthcoming qualification diet. Details of the upcoming Easter school, Supported Study and the Scholar programme will be discussed. The opportunity for pupils to sign up for Easter school and be allocated passwords for Scholar will be given at this time.
In order to further support our S4 pupils as they prepare for their National course assignments, units and exams we have produced an S4 Study Skills booklet, please click on the link below to access this.
This resource will help students reflect on their strengths and development needs as we move towards a very important period in S4 and allow them to plan for attaining the best possible results in the time between now and the end of their courses.

Advice for any staff or parents who contact the school with concerns about coronavirus:
The council is working with NHS Lanarkshire and any updates on the virus will be shared with our staff and residents.

Can we ask all parents / carers to speak to their children about not leaving the school grounds through the car park and then via the vehicular entrance / exit including through the old gate. Pupils should only leave the school through the designated pedestrian exits and use the appropriate bridges or underpasses to ensure a safe passage across the road towards Carbrain / Kildrum. We appreciate that those who want to use the shops are entitled to do so at lunchtime and that they can be busy with long queues but the risks posed by not using the appropriate pedestrian exits are a huge concern to us and we hope you share our concern and will help us eradicate this extremely dangerous practice. We will endeavour to monitor this and will alert parents / carers if their child is involved. Thank you for your support.
