Excellent Questions from Students

Mr Phillips – Here’s a list of excellent questions I’ve been asked by P7 students.

2021

Erii from Abronhill and Nicholas from Kildrum: What is algebra actually for?

Aaron from Whitelees: What history topics are covered in S1? Excellent question. In S1, History is taught in an 11 week block. This rotates with Modern Studies and Geography so by the end of the year, you will have had 11 weeks of each. Topics for History in S1 include Ancient Civilisations (Greece, Rome, Egypt, Indus Valley and Mesopotamia), The Scottish Wars of Independence and Jack the Ripper.

Teegan from Carbrain: How much is school lunch? A 2-course school lunch is £3.15. Full details and menu are available from the NL website here. Some people will be entitled to Free School Meals. It is very important to register for this prior to starting at CA. This video has more information.

Noah from Carbrain: What animation skills do you learn? In S1 you will develop animation skills using both Adobe Fireworks and Powerpoint.

Robbie from Carbrain: What coding do you do? Coding is covered in S2. You develop skills using python to make sequences of shapes move.

Kai from Abronhill: Will school sports teams be allowed to compete against other schools? Yes, as soon as Covid restrictions allow, we will be able to compete against other schools. This will involve a mixture of home and away games in a range of sports. This should be starting this year (21/22).

Travis from Abronhill: Have CA ever had trips to Alton Towers? Yes Travis, the final reward trip of the year has previously been Alton Towers, however this would have mainly been for seniors, junior students would have probably gone to Lightwater Valley.

Kayla from Whitelees: Are sports teams mixed boys and girls, or are they separated? Good question Kayla, had to check this one. Sports clubs at lunchtimes are mixed. Teams that represent the school are separated into boys or girls teams.

Aleesha from Whitelees: What opportunities are there to dance, both within the curriculum and as extra curricular activities? There are a few different options here Aleesha. There are Dance Coaches that visit the school to run clubs and activities. These are mainly contemporary/Street Dance style and there is a competition later in the year. There is a Bollywood dance club and there is also a Social Dancing event later in the year (this depends on covid restrictions).

Hannah from Whitelees: Is there a Gaelic club? No, not at the moment. New clubs are starting all the time though, and there’s nothing to stop you starting one yourself.

Josh from Whitelees: What cooking clubs are there? There is a cupcake club that takes place on Friday 4-5pm. I think that’s the only one for now, but you can always make suggestions to staff if there’s something you want to do.

Morgan from Whitelees: Is there a trampolining club? Yes there is. This takes place on Tuesdays 4-5pm.

More information on the clubs on offer is available here.
