S5 Pupils interested in university

Nufield Research project

They take place over the summer after S5 and involve both online activities and two-weeks on-site research. Placements take place at a variety of locations including offices, museums, research centres, laboratories or fieldwork settings across the UK. Your on-site placement activity will not cost you or your parents/carers anything.
We reimburse travel costs for all students, and depending on your family circumstances, you may also be eligible to
receive a bursary. Nuffield Research placements are supervised but independent research projects relating to an area
of science, quantitative social science, computing, technology, engineering or maths (or a combination of these).

Senior Phase- SQA Change of Level Returns 2022

Following on from the recent prelim exams and subsequent pupil reports being issued change of level letters were sent out to selected parents in the senior phase. These letters made recommendations on current pupil levels moving up or down a level in order to increase their chances of attaining the best grade with this sessions qualifications.

As you may be aware those parents who received a recommendation were asked to complete the online response form/QR code or return the tear of slip from the letter. As things stand there are still a number of responses outstanding.

Can we ask that, if possible, parents complete the  online response form or scan the QR code to confirm their childs level.

Senior Phase Option Information Presentation

As previously detailed in Fridays post tomorrow evening, Tuesday February 8th, we will be hosting an online drop in session for the parents/carers of next sessions S4-S6 pupils at 6.30pm. During this time we will be able to provide feedback on SQA related issues, the upcoming option process and any matter concerning the Senior Phase qualifications

As a prelude to this we have filmed a short video explaining the S4 into S5 option process and possible pathways into Further/Higher education and the world of work. Please click on the link below to access the presentation.

We hope that you can join us on Tuesday evening  when we will be available to answer any of your relevant questions. Texts inviting parents will be sent on Monday afternoon.

S4 Parents Evening Tuesday 8th February 4pm -6.20pm

We are looking forward to welcoming along to our online event tomorrow evening the parents/carers of our S4 pupils. We anticipate that this evening will run smoothly and to further support its success there are just a few points to highlight. Namely:

  • Teachers will be available from 4.00-6.20pm to undertake appointments.  Only appointments that have been pre-booked up until 9pm tonight can be taken
  • Meetings will be open for up to 5 minutes at which point they will automatically close. At this point the next round of meetings will begin
  • The video technology in use requires that participants have a web cam and microphone. This should be tested prior to the meeting starting
  • Chrome (internet browser) is recommended for use on a laptop/PC/Tablet or smartphone as it’s best for connectivity.  Safari (internet browser) is recommended for iPhone/iPad.
  • Microsoft Teams, Zoom or any other software that may have control over your microphone/webcam should be closed before joining the parents evening video meeting
  • If you encounter a grey screen where you expect a video meeting it is an indication that your device/computer cannot connect to the video meeting server.  If possible, we recommend trying a different internet connection or even a different internet browser. If still unsuccessful and if you have access to another device then it should be used.

Video help guides are available in a previous post should you require further assistance.
