Good Morning Folks!
Wow, I can’t believe it is March already!! Roll on springtime! Hopefully not too long now until we can all be back together in the classroom.
Thursday 4th March is World Book Day and the theme for this year is ‘Share a Story’. So I thought this week we would have a wee focus on reading for pleasure and sharing some of our favourite books. Check out the World Book Day dropdown for activities.

Literacy
Spelling
SumDog Spelling is now finished so this week I want you to do your normal active spelling this week. If the weather is nice why not try and do some of them outside. Message me or post on Teams if you need some ideas.
For your sentences this week, can you write your sentences about a book you have read or maybe a sentence from a book you have read? In honour of World Book Day on Thursday.
Reading
The Twits
The Witches
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Fantastic Mr Fox
As usual you will have your meeting with Mrs Rowan on Tuesday at 11am. I know she has been so proud of all the hard work you have been doing. She will also upload your work for the week onto Teams. Make sure you have checked what pages to do. We will have a meeting on Tuesday this week at 12pm. This will just be a catch up and to go over the writing for Wednesday. You all have plenty of books on BugClub so make sure you have a wee look. The more you practice the better you get and we can look at moving on when we come back.
Writing
For writing this week we are going to do something a little bit different. Here is our picture that we are going to use:
You now have a range of activities to complete.
-
Sick sentences!
These sentences are ‘sick’ and need help to get better. Can you help rewrite them? (VCOP).
The cat waited in the shadows. She looked around the room with her eyes. Her whiskers twitched.
-
Sentence challenge!
Can you think of similes or metaphors to describe the cat?
E.g. eyes, fur, whiskers, tail, nose, claws, ears, how she moves or pounces?
-
Question time!
What allows this cat to hunt so well at night?
What has she seen in the room?
What will she do next?
Do you think dogs are more intelligent than cats?
What do cats use their whiskers for?
-
Story starter!
In the inky blackness of the shadows, she blended in perfectly. Her saucer-like eyes and sleek whiskers were all that could be seen.
She was deliberately hiding; her colour and keen sight were her greatest allies. What she had glimpsed at the other side of the candlelit room was troubling, and arching her back, she prepared to move in an instant…
Can you continue this story for another couple of paragraphs?
-
Perfect picture!
Can you draw a picture of another animal that blends in with its surroundings using camouflage?
Numeracy
This week there is a North Ayrshire SumDog Competition. Why don’t we see if we can win? If you have any spare time or have finished your work why not log on and try to complete as many of the questions as you can.
