Week 6 – 16/2/21

Hi Guys and Gals,

I hope you all had a great long weekend. I know we certainly needed it here. This week we will spend just finishing off some of our booklets (before we move onto new ones) and trying out some of the online lessons that have been provided by Education Scotland. This is also the last week for you to try out some of the no screen activities as next week we will be starting a new topic.

Mrs Rowan should be uploading your work for this week onto Teams. If you need any other activities then feel free to try some of your reading comprehensions in your reading booklet. I have also assigned a new book for you on BugClub. This week it is: Goldilocks and the Porridge Problem.

Writing

This week we will continue and complete the stories you have been working on for the last few weeks. We have already looked in detail at how to write about setting and character. In our class lesson this week we will go over how to write in paragraphs and ensure you have a clear structure for your story. You should spend the first little while planning your story to make sure it is well structured. Then you will have the opportunity to write your story in full.
Here are the resources we will be using. Remember you don’t have to print them, you can just write the different parts in your jotter or on paper. This video explains structure very well!

How to Create a Story Structure

Story Mountain – this is the planning sheet we have been using in class.
Story Mapping Boxes – this is a different type of planning sheet.
Story Success Criteria – this is your success criteria.

Numeracy

Next week we will be moving onto your new maths booklets, with a focus on multiplication and division. Therefor, this week we will have a week of completing any pages that haven’t been done in your current maths booklets. For most of you that will be the addition and subtraction and times tables sections of your booklets. Choose a page or 2 each day and keep your brain working.
Tuesday: Set a 15 minute timer and complete a page of your Ultimate Times Table Challenge (Times table section of your maths booklet). If you can complete it in less than 15 minutes then why not try to beat the time you set last time? Let me know if you need me to post the answers.
Wednesday:  Choose 1 or 2 pages from your booklet to complete. It  might be addition and subtraction (tower/chimney sums) or times table pages. It may even be something you didn’t quite finish from fractions or patterns. Infinity and Perpendicular we will be meeting at 11.45am.
Thursday: Watch this video about multiplying in your head and give these problems a wee go. Pi, Percentage and Square Root we will be meeting at 11.45am.
