Weekly Review 11/9/20

Here is some of the things we have been learning about this week:

Ancient Egyptians

We have started to make a pyramid with sand blocks with our names in hieroglyphics.

We learned a bit more about the Gods and Goddesses.
We did some mummy, Cleopatra and God/Goddess colouring.

Literacy

We did a baseline today. Our title was: My Best Day Ever. We all tried our best. Mrs Munro is very excited to mark them all and read about our best day.
Spelling – we focussed on active jobs and sentences this week. We learned about uplevelling our sentences to make them even better by using vocabulary, connectives and openers.
Handwriting – we focussed on the small guys, tall guys and the fall guys.
On Wednesday we did some Write to the Top writing. Primary 5s were writing about Digma (a scary monster) and the Primary 4s were writing about a sinking ship. We practiced identifying lots of good features of writing then we continued the story.
We read some more of the Witches. Did you know: they keep snakes in their purses and offer them to children (eeeeek!). We read about a witch who had gums like raw meat (ewwww) and her lips went up and down when she smiled. She also had gloves on so we knew she was a witch. There are witches in every country of the world but they don’t know each other. In their own countries they meet up at hotels to have meetings with The Grand High Witch. Odd things happen in the hotels like a cook who found a baby crocodile in the soup, the beds are never slept in, there were burn marks on the carpet and there were toads in the bathtub. We can’t wait to read more.
We also thought about what might have happened to Granmamma’s thumb. She lost it the first time she met a witch. We considered how she might have felt at the time. Most of us thought she would have been sore, scared and terrified. SOme of us thought she would have been relieved to escape with only having lost her thumb.

Numeracy

Pi – Negative numbers. Divisibility.
Square root and percentages – Counting in 11s, 25s and 50s.
Infinity – 3, 4 and 5 digit numbers. Writing numbers in words. Place value.
Perpendicular – 10 more and 10 less, making 4 digit numbers. Place value.

Other

On Monday we had the Ipads all day. We completed PASS assessments (our wellbeing and feelings). We also tried out all our logins for homework and had a play on Education City, SumDog and BugClub.
Emily-Rose was our PAThS kid this week.

As part of our morning challenge we made our own class rules on Tuesday. They were:
  1. Dance to the toilet.
  2. Funny face to get soap.
  3. Stop and move every 15 minutes.
We had great fun following these all day and we were all exhausted by 2.45pm. Keir was the best at dancing to the toilet as he took it all in his stride.
On Thursday we were so excited as we had a call with Mrs Robertson. We loved catching up with her and sharing some of our news and our learning with her. She also gave us a special mention in assembly this week, for working so hard.
We finally got our class charter completely finished. We are so delighted with it and enjoy sharing some of the class rules throughout the week.

Over the last few weeks we have been working on a continuous line, mindfulness drawing. These have been inspired by the artist Paul Klee. See if you can see some of our positive and inspirational words.

We started our recognition wall this week as well. We picked our class target and what prize we want. When our rainbows are all in the ‘sky’ then we will get our prize. We have done really well in our first week.
