Developing Young Workforce (DYW)

Whats Is DYW?

Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) is the Scottish Government’s Youth Employment strategy to better prepare young people for the world of work. For more information on DYW click here .
DYW plays a key part in the delivery of the Young Person’s Guarantee, which is a commitment to bring together employers, partners and young people. It aims to connect every 16 to 24 year old in Scotland to an opportunity. This could be a job, apprenticeship, further or higher education, training or volunteering.  Discover opportunities for the future using the opportunity finder by clicking here.

It is a team effort to support young people to prepare for the world of work so Inverclyde Academy works with Inverclyde DYW, Skills Development Scotland and MCR Pathways every day through our in-house Career Zone.

At a regional level, we work closely with our partners at DYW West and West College Scotland to ensure maximum delivery of the young Person’s Guarantee. You can see more about this here:

At Inverclyde Academy, we fully subscribe to the No Wrong Path ethos and encourage all young people to explore positive destinations in all occupations. You can find out more about each pathway through the links below:

DYW Events

Each year, we offer a range of events at Inverclyde Academy to support all pathways, including:

  • November – Careers Week Scotland events including STEM West visit
  • January – IA Careers Fair
  • March – Apprenticeship Week Scotland events
  • All year round – support with applications and interviews for university, college, apprenticeship and employment through our extended in-house DYW Team.

My World of Work Ambassadors

Last session, we launched the MyWoW Ambassadors programme with our S1 pupils and were delighted when large numbers signed up. In the summer term, 18 yooung people completed the MyWoW training from Skills Development Scotland before goig on to work with our incoming P7 schools to spreading the word of the support MyWoW offers to pupils, teachers, parents and carers.

By volunteering to become Ambassadors, our S1s gained valuable experience and skills that are transferable to the world of work. By promoting MyWoW and the Meta-skills framework across the whole school, Ambassadors are making a valuable contribution to our whole community’s knowledge and understanding of career pathways in Scotland.
