The biography finalists are in…
Thank you to the parent/carer helps who assisted at the CCC today for our Christmas assembly. Well done to Molly and Rosie for their fantastic readings.
We will have games and DVD rooms tomorrow. You can bring U-rated DVDs and board games.
NO ELECTRONIC GAMES ARE ALLOWED
At the beginning of this term each person completed a biography on their hero for homework. Some of the presentation was absolutely fantastic; as the judges found out when marking them agains the criteria.
The criteria the judges marked them against were:
-
Eye-catching front cover
-
Balance between images and information
-
Sub-headings
We have chosen 3 winners in both P6 and P7. The winners are as follows:
P6
1st- Orrin B for his biography on the inspirational Albert Einstein. Orrin’s biography had catchy sub-headings, an interactive display of information, and eye catching images.
2nd- Finlay M for his biography on Bill Gates. Finlay’s biography had an array of personal touches which made it stand out from the crowd.
3rd- Aimee F for her biography on Zara Phillips. Aimee used chapters within her biography to enhance her layout. The balance between images and information is just right.
P7
1st- Cody C for her biography on Jessica Ennis. Cody’s biography was well presented meeting all the criteria which the judges marked against. Her front cover uses sparkle, which instantly catches the reader’s eye.
2nd- Catherine H for her biography on Mary King. Catherine’s passion for horseriding shone through in the amount of effort she put into her biography.
3rd- James H for his biography on Mohammed (Mo) Farah. The layout of James’ biography using sub-headings, images and information, which was both interesting and eye-catching secured him a place in the top 3.
This was an extremely hard decision, and we are very impressed with the work that people put in. Our next step is to get all of the biographies into one display which you can read at your leisure.
See you tomorrow, for our LAST day!
Mr.Cook, Mrs.MacLeod and Mrs.Prentice
P7 Party!
What a FANTASTIC P7 party night it was- I think we can safely say, it has definitely been the best school Christmas party the P7s have had this year! 🙂
Thank you to all of the staff who came along to support the party. As we have more boys than girls, it was excellent to have the staff dancing with us. We’d also like to thank parents/carers for their food donations. We still have a surplus after the party, so aim to demolish this tomorrow/Thursday. In addition to this, we’ll send our thanks to Domino’s for the fantastic pizza!
There are some brilliant photographs from tonight below. Some of these will most definitely make the year book.
See you tomorrow- bleary eyed!

Santa Recruitment!!
REMINDER: P7 PARTY- TONIGHT AT 7pm-9pm
Over the last fortnight, we had the job of applying to become one of Santa’s elves. Unfortunately his poor elf Dobby lost his Christmas spirit, and took early retirement from the North Pole.
Fortunately for us though, Santa needs a little bit of extra help before the big day.
He sifted through the application forms from all of P6/7. He was overly impressed with the standard that was given. Therefore he hasn’t only hired one elf, but TWO new elves. There is a catch however, he has informed us that he needs to check out the references and qualifications before he can confirm a start date.
The two lucky people to join Santa are: Elfis Presently (James.H) and Jeangle McBells (Ellie)
Check out the Santa information we received today by email:
P6- we will see you tomorrow & P7- get your party clothes on, we’ll be seeing you at 7pm.

Lost Property- Christmas 2012
There are many un-named items in lost property. Most of them have been there for at least the past term. These items will be available in the school reception area from 2:30-3pm Mon 17th Dec – Thu 20th Dec. Following this all unclaimed items will be put to the Blysthwood box.
Items include numerous gym shoes, hats, gloves, scarves, school jumpers, school polos, drinks bottles, lunch boxes as well as those listed previously on the website.
Remember the best way to avoid lost property is to put your childs name on all items that come to school with them.
Have a very Merry Christmas & Happy New Year.

Christmas around the world!
This week, as part of our Religious and moral education (RME) we have been looking at Christmas around the world. We have looked at the traditions which various countries have at Christmas, as well as the links to Bethlehem within the New Testament within The Christmas Story.

We like, we like to party!!
P6 Christmas Party!!
Today, the Christmas spirit was in full swing at the P6 party. Everyone had a fantastic time doing their Scottish country dances, playing party games, and having some of that fantastic party food. Thank you to parents/carers for their donations- some left overs will see the P6s through to the end of term no doubt!
Our forfeits went down a treat in Pass the Parcel- even the mistletoe. Mr.Cook and Mrs.Prentice did look a little silly when doing the demonstration for the matchbox and orange passing.
Three very tired teachers, all partied out,

Bah Humbug!
Mr Cook was a bit of a scrooge yesterday, but Mrs MacLeod and Mrs Prentice have both twisted his arm into liking coloured Christmas lights, and tinsel! You never know, he might even put one of these up in his house this year!!

Well done to our NOVEMBER Pupil of the Month recipients! You’re all excellent ambassadors for Lochardil!
James and Morven– James and Morven took on the leadership role this month of organising the book fair, with minimal guidance. Everyone agreed that they did an excellent job, the event being a fantastic success.

Well Done from everyone in P6/7!

Thank you to everyone involved!
Feeling HOT HOT HOT!!
A festive joke from Mrs Mac…
Q: What currency does Santa pay with?
A: Jingle Bills
This afternoon we had a visitor, Robert from Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE). He came to talk to us about climate change and global warming within the energy industry.
Robert was very impressed with all the prior knowledge that the pupils had, he awarded some FANTASTIC prizes to those who answered his questions well.
He told us some top tips about to save energy around the home- these were some of the tips that we came up with when making our global warming pamphlettes.
Our challenge now is to show our Rock Challenge audience what we mean by global warming. The technologic scene at the beginning will take into consideration some of the things that Robert mentioned.
See you all tomorrow,
Mr.Cook, Mrs.MacLeod and Mrs Prentice

Thank you to Mrs Hunter for teaching the choir the songs, and the parent/carer helpers for taking them on their excursion!
Missing Jacket
We have a missing jacket which has gone walkabouts in P6/7. If anyone has taken home a black Helly Hanson waterproof jacket, with grey panels on the arm, and the initials BK by mistake, could it be returned ASAP.
See you in the morning!
Mr.Cook, Mrs MacLeod and Mrs.Prentice
M&M Monday!
Today we had M&M Monday in Lochardil. We kicked off the day with M&Ms production of Pinocchio! Their use of popular songs in their show was fantastic, including songs from some of our favourites- Katy Perry and One Direction!
The underlying message from the production was:
– Don’t talk to strangers.
– Say NO! to bullying.
It was great to see all of the effort people went into when creating their biographies. Today we got to look over the biographies that others had made. When Mrs MacLeod is back, we will be choosing our 3rd, 2nd and 1st place winners for P6 and P7.
SONG CHANGE:
We will now be using the first minute of this song, instead of the ‘Singing in the Rain’ version we had at the start of Rock Challenge.

CHRISTMAS FAYRE TONIGHT AT 6.30pm!
COMMENT ON THE POST BELOW WITH YOUR ‘UP LEVELLED’ SENTENCE FOR MONDAY!
After two days of gruesome auditions with Louis, Tulisa and Nicole (Gary felt Inverness was too far to travel!) our auditionees for the two main parts in Rock Challenge were put to their tests.
In the first round of auditions we had 22 auditionees. We managed to narrow this down, where we took 8 auditionees onto the ‘Lunchtime Camp’. We then narrowed our 8 auditionees down further to 4 which we brought to the ‘Judges Classrooms’
In the ‘Judges Classrooms’ we were very impressed with the talent…
Dermot has announced the winners below!!!
Techno Geek: Leon
Techno Geek’s Sister: Ellie
Techno Geek (Understudy) : Georgia
Techno Geek’s Brother (Understudy) : Fergus
Well Done to EVERYONE who auditioned. It was a very dificult decision for us to make our decision!

Let’s up-level that!
Homework task: For Monday 3rd December
– UP LEVEL THE SENTENCE AT THE END OF THIS BLOG POST, AND COMMENT ON THIS POST
REMEMBER: Home baking for the Christmas Fayre tomorrow!!
This week, we’ve been developing the skill of UP-LEVELLING. With our 4 friends in writing- Vocabulary, Connectives, Openers and Punctuation- we’ve been having a go at turning simple sentences into fantastic pieces of work.
We’ve learned how to us:
– adjectives
– adverbs
– prepositional statements
– embedded clauses
With this, we can turn a simple sentence like:
A dog barked.
INTO
A ferocious dog, who was trying to catch the burglar, barked loudly through the hole in the fence.
Now, we want to put YOUR skills to the test. For Friday, we want YOU to up-level the sentence below. You have to add all 4 of the magic steps. Comment on the blog post!
Your sentence:
‘The wolf howled’
See you tomorrow,

HOME BAKING REMINDER!!
HOMEBAKING-HOMEBAKING-HOMEBAKING-HOMEBAKING!!
P6/7 have been reminded that we’ve been asked by the Parent Council for any HOME BAKING donations for the Christmas Fayre on Thursday. These can be as simple as chocolate crispies (which EVEN Mr Cook can make), or something a bit trickier like a cheesecake.
You can drop these off on Thursday morning!
We’re all going a bit decimal crazy. If you have liked the tenths game, try your luck with hundredths.

What’s inside our art gallery this week?
Specialist group A have been very busy with Mrs Prentice on a Friday afternoon. So far they have completed some fantastic Autumnal leaf paintings which glimmer in the sunshine, as well as pencil sketching.
As we’re all doing Fractions, Decimals and Percentages this term, we thought we’d end the week with a BBC Class Clip. It is very funny, and shows how fractions, decimals and percentages have influenced the world.
Watch below:
The History of Fractions
A fantastic game which Mr Cook’s group played in Maths today for decimal tenths is found by clicking the link below. We are 78th on the leaderboard. If you get onto the leaderboard, put P67 as your initials as we’re trying to reach 100,000 points.

Say NO to BULLYING!
Another extremely busy day in the home of P6/7.
We finally begun reviewing our weather reports that we filmed at the end of the term. Our task was to peer assess each of the clips and write positive feedback, as well as decide on next steps. Some of us have still to finish this tomorrow. The weather reports are truly fantastic, and can be watched by clicking the link below. You will need the password which you were told today.

If you cannot remember the password, email: jcook133@highlandschools.org.uk
We also were fortunate enough to have players from Inverness Caley Thistle visit us, and talk to us about bullying. They shared some personal stories, and told us we should say NO to bullies, and walk away. We asked some sensible questions, but maybe would have benefitted from creating these before.

Book Fair Bonanza!
REMINDER: Comment on the post below, summarising Mr Slack’s assembly yesterday.
Last week, the school was set the competition by James.H and Morven.R to design a book which could be used with Nursery children.
The amount of effort that people went to across the school to create their books was MAMMOTH! It was a difficult to decision, but the winners have now been informed. The prize was £25 of tokens to spend at the book fair!
We now hope to share some of the stories with the Nursery!
Well done to everyone who took part!
See you tomorrow,
