Rock Challenge DVD!

Today we gave each pupil a copy of our Rock Challenge performance on DVD. We’d like to thank Mr Nairn for his assistance with the copying of the DVDs!

We had originally planned to put on a performance for parents/carers; however due to a lack of space within the school, and the fact that the lights and staging lifted the performance, we felt it was better to give you a copy which you can watch time and time again.

Play the DVD from 7 minutes – this will take you to Georgia’s introduction before the performance.

Following on from our Sonnet 18 blog post yesterday – here’s a video showing that children really CAN learn and recite the sonnet to an audience:

Rock Challenge

A special well done to Mackenzie.B, Finlay.M, Jamie.G, Duncan.B, Fergus.W, Erin.F and Anna.M who all took part in the Cross Country Championships on Saturday. Well done for representing both P6/7 and Lochardil!

Our Rock Challenge feedback is in – and the word ‘OUTSTANDING’ jumps out to us. Have a look at the feedback by clicking each of the pictures below.

Unfortunately, due to space within our hall we will not be able to put the Rock Challenge performance on for parents/carers. We have contemplated using the CCC or the IRA; however we feel that the lights added to the overall performance, and this would be lost.

FORTUNATELY, Mr Nairn has managed to create the DVDs for us. Once Mr Cook has sorted out the front covers, each pupil will be issued with one copy of the DVD as a gift from the P6/7 team.

See you in the morning,
Mr.Cook, Mrs.MacLeod and Mrs.Prentice

One word – WOW!

We think the title sums up yesterday – WOW!

What a fantastic day yesterday was- a fantastic group extremely tired pupils and staff today! You were all fabulous and amazing. Your final performance scored 100% from your toughest judge – Mr Cook. Well done for succesfully making him tear.

In addition to that, we picked up 7 awards which will be displayed within the school. The judges comments could not have been better. The word ‘OUTSTANDING’ which they used, really does portray the hard work of you all.

Watching the DVD today really highlighted how fantastic your performance was. Now we just need to find a way of copying it…

We’re hoping to put  a performance on for parents/carers, however we need to source a suitable venue first.

Thank you to all the parent/carer helps who assisted yesterday- we couldn’t have done it without you!

T-MINUS 14 hours!

Its 6.30 pm – and in 14 hours time, we’ll be meeting in the foyer of Eden Court.

The dress rehearsals got progressively better today- even reaching a 96% from ‘nasty judge’ Mr Cook, even though Mrs Prentice, our resident Karen Barber (Dancing on Ice) had a tear in her eye. You’re aiming for 100% tomorrow- your aim- to make Mr Cook shed a tear!

REMINDERS:

– Meeting at 8.30am in Eden Court
– Collected at 7.30pm from Eden Court
– Wear School Uniform, bringing your Rock Challenge clothes in your bag
– Make sure you have enough food and juice to keep you going for the day

Three very excited teachers,

February break!

A Friday like no other, the Friday of ‘half-term’. Just a reminder that pupils will not be in school next week: Monday 11th February – Friday 15th February (inclusive) due to the February long weekend, and staff inservice.

We hope you all have a great holiday, however REMEMBER all of your moves for Rock Challenge. We only have 1 day back before the event.

A few pieces of information to clarify for the day: Tuesday 19th February 2013

  • Pupils to be dropped off at Eden Court at 8.30am

  • Pupils to be collected from the foyer at 7.30pm

  • Pupils to have a packed lunch for the afternoon

  • In the evening, pupils will either have pizza (if opted) or a large packed lunch

  • Pupils should wear school uniform to Rock Challenge, bringing their clothing with them

  • Evening parent/carer ‘Make-up artists’ who have received letter to arrive at 4.30pm

The finish line is in sight…

FINAL REMINDER: If you’re wanting pizza on the night of Rock Challenge, pizza money is due tomorrow, FRIDAY 8th February at the latest!

Today was our last Rock Challenge rehearsal before the February holiday. We’re almost ready, but have a few finishing touches to iron out on the first day back. Our technical team have a fanastic lighting and video plan created, which will capture the hard work and efforts of everyone on stage.

Unfortunately, due to space, we wont be able to do a performance for parents/carers BEFORE the Eden Court performance.  Logistically, with the stage being closed off currently, it is difficult.

If you’d like to see the full Eden Court performance, tickets can be sourced by clicking the link below:

Tech Team’s visit to Eden Court!

REMINDER: Rock Challenge costumes for tomorrow. P7 will be at Bibleworld in the morning- there will be NO snack from the canteen for P7- bring this with you to Bibleworld.

As promised, here is the blogpost from Aimee, Finlay and Morven on their trip to Eden Court.

We visited Eden Court yesterday (Finlay, Aimee and Morven) where we met Mr Batty, a specialist in lighting.

He showed us how to work the lights, furthermore we got a tour around Eden Court.

We went up to the highest point of the Empire Theatre so a lady could tell us how the spotlights work. We found out that the spotlights can change colour.

We learnt how the lights could dim, in addition to the fact that they could become bigger or smaller. We also went on the Empire Stage, and underneath it where the orchestra usually sit when they are performing.

Aimee had a chance to use one of the spotlights. She made the light bigger and smaller, dimmer and brighter. The spotlights are about 1 metre long; but are really light although they look heavy.

Personal Projects & Rock Challenge

Reminder: Bring in your outfits for Rock Challenge by FRIDAY. We will be starting our dress-rehearsals as of Monday. If you’re requiring pieces for your outfit- speak to one of the P6/7 teachers.

Tomorrow afternoon, P6 will be going to Bibleworld. Just a reminder that there is to be NO home lunches tomorrow.

We’d love to hear what your personal project topic is. Comment on the blog and let us know!

Our technical team: Finlay, Morven and Aimee went to Eden Court today. They will report to you on the blog tomorrow to tell you what they learned.

See you in the morning,

Rock Challenge- DRESS REHEARSALS

REMINDER: Let us know what your topic is for your personal project by commenting on the post below

Three weeks today, we will be performing on Eden Court theatre stage. We have been extremely busy rehearsing during class and at lunchtimes, designing scenery and props both during class and at lunchtime, as well as organising and creating our costumes.

BUT, we still have work to do.

NEXT WEEK will be our last time to make sure our performance is PERFECT. We will be having dress rehearsals all week from Monday. For the dress rehearsals- you need to bring in the outfits you will be wearing on the night.

We would kindly ask if you could bring in ALL outfits and props which you are bringing from home by THIS Friday, 1st February. They will be stored for each scene in Mrs Prentice’s room. Bring items in a plastic bag, and you can label them, before placing them in the cupboard.

You will need ALL outfits each day next week!

See you tomorrow,
Mr.Cook, Mrs.MacLeod and Mrs.Prentice

P6/7 and The Archie Foundation!

Rock Challenge information letter went home today. It is important that this is read, as it contains all of the information for our performance on the 19th of February.

DSCF2354

DSCF2355This morning, P6/7 were delighted to present Kim from The Archie Foundation with a cheque for £520.85. We heard today that our donation will go towards the new children’s ward within Raigmore Hospital.

Over the past two sessions 2011/2012 and 2012/2013, P6/7 have organised many enterprise and fundraising activities. The profits from each of their ventures- such as the Coffee Morning, Hallowe’en disco, Nails N’ Nibbles and Bottle Full of Change- have been combined to help us give this donation. We have also been able to donate £500 to the ‘Be Your Best- Rock Challenge Foundation’ the past two school years.

Thank you to everyone who has supported our events, making our donation possible!

Look out for our photograph in the Inverness Courier over the next week.

See you all tomorrow,
Mr.Cook, Mrs.MacLeod and Mrs.Prentice

Tidal Wave…

Please Note: NO PE KIT NEEDED TOMORROW

It was great to see our final number, Tidal Wave, come together today. Having the WHOLE of P6 and P7 on stage doing a rehearsed routine has a massive impact on the audience. Lunchtime rehearsals will start next week to finalise each of the songs.

Over the next two Thursdays, Billy Skinner from Construction Skills will be coming to visit us to do a technological problem solving. As we are doing this in 3 groups, it gives us plenty time to learn some more about the key figures of The Scottish Enlightenment.

Mr Cook’s register class will be starting at 1pm- Packed and School lunches only please tomorrow.

Tomorrow: Bring your imagination- you’ll need it!

See you in the morning,

Welcome back!!

Research Homework: Find out the names of each of the three Wise Men

P6/7 are glad to be back! It sounds like everyone had a fantasic Christmas break, but back at school is where the fun is set to begin.

This term is an extremely busy term for us. Over the next 5 weeks we will be preparing for Rock Challenge at Eden Court on February 19th. We have the choreography for the main body of our performance, however we have to complete our final number in which we will all be on stage.

This term we will also be studying ‘The Scottish Enlightenment’ as our topic. We found out today that The Scottish Englightenment was a period of time in the 1700s (18th Century), in which Scotland was famous for: philosophy, chemistry, geology, architecture, poetry, engineering, technology, economics, sociology, medicine and history. During this time, also known as ‘The Golden Age’, many people contributed to this, and over this term, we will be learning about their successes.

We have separated our topic into three areas in which we hope to research:

Inventions and Science
How did the scientific and mathematical developments of the 18th century impact the world at that time?

The Arts
Why was Scotland so influential, with regards to the arts, during the 18th century?

Education and Thinking
What made our education system and our way of thinking stand out from the rest of the world?

Our overall outcome is to:
Create a written/multi-media project about an influential person/time in Scottish history. We will be doing this in class individually, in pairs or in small groups.

We are having a think about a fantastic excursion which will support our topic. If you have any ideas/expertise about ‘The Scottish Enlightenment’- please do get in touch!

See you tomorrow,
Mr.Cook, Mrs.MacLeod and Mrs.Prentice

Feeling HOT HOT HOT!!

A festive joke from Mrs Mac…
Q: What currency does Santa pay with?
A: Jingle Bills

This afternoon we had a visitor, Robert from Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE). He came to talk to us about climate change and global warming within the energy industry.

Robert was very impressed with all the prior knowledge that the pupils had, he awarded some FANTASTIC prizes to those who answered his questions well.

He told us some top tips about to save energy around the home- these were some of the tips that we came up with when making our global warming pamphlettes.

Our challenge now is to show our Rock Challenge audience what we mean by global warming. The technologic scene at the beginning will take into consideration some of the things that Robert mentioned.

See you all tomorrow,
Mr.Cook, Mrs.MacLeod and Mrs Prentice

M&M Monday!

Today we had M&M Monday in Lochardil. We kicked off the day with M&Ms production of Pinocchio! Their use of popular songs in their show was fantastic, including songs from some of our favourites- Katy Perry and One Direction!

The underlying message from the production was:

– Don’t talk to strangers.
– Say NO! to bullying.

It was great to see all of the effort people went into when creating their biographies. Today we got to look over the biographies that others had made. When Mrs MacLeod is back, we will be choosing our 3rd, 2nd and 1st place winners for P6 and P7.

SONG CHANGE:
We will now be using the first minute of this song, instead of the ‘Singing in the Rain’ version we had at the start of Rock Challenge.

Going Global!

We have been immersed in Climate Change and Global Warming over the passed few weeks.

Our Climate Change board games are now complete. We will be showcasing our games at the Open Afternoon on the 5th of December, where we invite parents/carers into see how much hard work we put in with our teams.

There is ONE game missing… If it’s your game, comment on the post with where you think it has disappeared to.

We were extremely busy today beginning with our Rock Challenge planning. Our choreographers have begun creating the routines, the design team have been planning out scenery and outfits, and the technical team have begun thinking about lights, sound and video.

Our soundtrack sounds FANTASTIC! Looking forward to another session tomorrow!

‘Ice Ice Baby’

NO HOCKEY AFTER SCHOOL CLUB TOMORROW- MRS CAMPBELL WILL NOT BE IN SCHOOL TOMORROW

This afternoon we got to grips with our Rock Challenge song list working together as the P6/7 TEAM. We still have to plan our introduction in more depth, to make sure we HOOK our audience in from the opening. We enjoyed having Mr Slack in for assembly today. He did an assembly on TEAMWORK.

BLOG HOMEWORK: FOR WEDNESDAY 21st NOVEMBER

  • Summarise the main points of Mr Slack’s TEAMWORK assembly

See you all tomorrow,
Mr.Cook, Mrs.MacLeod and Mrs.Prentice

Let’s get global…

This term, as we mentioned at the beginning we are focussing on the Expressive Arts this term. We will be developing our skills in Art, Drama, Music and Dance through Rock Challenge.

NEWS JUST IN: We have chosen our theme

Our theme for this year’s Rock Challenge is going to be Global Warming. Following on naturally from our Weather and Climate Change topic, pupils were inspired by the 1 degree to 6 degrees clips we studied.

[kml_flashembed movie="http://www.youtube.com/v/O8qmaAMK4cM" width="425" height="344" allowfullscreen="true" fvars="fs=1" /]

Here are the questions we aim to answer through our topic:

How can we make costumes and scenery using limited resources?

How can we create a performance with an underlying message?

What dance and movement talents do we have as a class?

What could be the devastating consequences of Global Warming?

How are we going to show our message in such a short time period?

How can we ensure that everyone feels included in the performance?

We will continue to update you with our progress. Fortunately with our excellent Enterprise efforts, we are able to pay our entry fee, so this is a massive weight lifted!

We’re looking forward to this year’s performance!
Mr.Cook, Mrs.MacLeod and Mrs.Prentice

Time to get cultured…

REMINDERS: Tomorrow Friday 9th November 2012
– Scottish Opera @ 11.30am. You will need a packed lunch, a warm jacket and suitable shoes for walking to and from Eden Court.
-There is NO swimming this week. It will resume next week.

Well done on all your dancing efforts. We’re definitely seeing an improvement with your co-ordination skills. This will be a real benefit when we perform for Rock Challenge.

A group begun working with Mrs.Prentice today on a storyline. We will share this with the whole class on Monday afternoon.

Looking forward to our cultural experience tomorrow.

It is time to ROCK this CHALLENGE

HALLOWEEN DISCO REMINDER:
P6/7 pupils to be at school for 5.30pm to help set up and until 9.30pm to help tidy up. Any Parent/Carer helpers who can assist will be appreciated.

Over the past two days we’ve been starting to think about what our theme is going to be for our Rock Challenge performance. Mr Cook has set us the task of having a theme by the time he is back on Monday.

One idea is to take a traditional story, and turn this into a piece of movement using a given theme. For example, in the finals last year, the team from Fraserburgh Academy used The Wizard of Oz to show that people in life are torn between the choices that they make.

Watch their clip by clicking the link below:

Fraserburgh Academy- Rock Challenge 2012

The choreography that some groups have used in the past are flawless. We would really like to have some slick moves that would give George Samson a run for his money.

Watch George Sampson’s video below:

It’s time for ROCK CHALLENGE

This term we are beginning our second topic which aims to encompass both MADD- Music, Art, Drama and Dance as well as HWB- Health and Wellbeing .

We are using the theme of ROCK CHALLENGE to deliver our topic.

Rock Challenge and the Be Your Best Foundation is a charity which aims to educate children and young people that the choices we make in life from a young age, influence our future.

The final aim of the topic is to perform on Eden Court stage in February to convey a message. We have 8 minutes to impress the audience and the judges but there is one catch-

WE ARE NOT ALLOWED TO TALK.

We have to create a piece of movement to music to convey a message. Watch last year’s Rock Challenge by clicking the link below. We are hoping to raise enough money from our Hallowe’en disco to pay our entry fee, however we may need to fundraise further.

Rock Challenge

P6/7 had a great time performing at Rock Challenge in February. All of the parents/carers/pupils/staff who seen the performance at Eden Court, the IRA or the CCC all thought it was outstanding.

I said that hopefully we would be able to get a DVD of the performance to parents/carers, however this was not possible. I have however finally found where the video is stored online via Rock Challenge- add it to your favourites, i presume it will be there for the foreseeable. I have also added this to the 2011/2012- VIDEOS page.
