Room 3

What an exciting week we’ve had in Primary 1! As part of Book Week Scotland, the children enjoyed taking part in lots of fun and engaging activities that helped celebrate our love of reading. One of the highlights of the week was getting to hear a special reading from a Scottish author, which the children absolutely loved.

We were also delighted to welcome parents into the classroom to take part in our Book Bug activity sessions. It was wonderful to see so many of you joining in, sharing stories, and helping your child explore books in creative ways.

Alongside all of the book week excitement, we have also been very busy rehearsing for our Nativity performance. The children are working hard to learn their songs and lines and we are so proud of their enthusiasm. A big thank you to everyone who has helped their child learn their line, your support at home makes a huge difference!

In literacy this week, we have been learning two new sounds: ‘c’ and ‘k’. The children have enjoyed practising these sounds through games, handwriting and magnetic letters.

In numeracy, we have been exploring the number stories of 3 and 4, helping the children understand different ways to make each number. They have been using cubes and active activities to help them.

Just a note to say all outfits for the nativity have been sent home. A little reminder of what narrators and characters should wear.

Characters

– Plain black bottoms (leggings/trousers/joggers)

– Plain white t-shirt (short or long sleeved).

– Black trainers or shoes would also be appropriate.

Narrators and non- speaking roles

I hope you all have a lovely weekend.

A Busy Week in Room 5

Today in room 5 it was wear it bright day and we all came in dressed in our brightest items of clothing. Miss Livingstone needed Sunglasses on to look at us!

We have been learning our songs for our Christmas Concert,  which is on Wednesday 10th December at 9:30am.

We learnt about dividing this week, and completed lots of active tasks in halving numbers. We learnt a new sound ‘au’ and have enjoyed our different active spelling tasks to help us remember the spelling.

Next week is a revision week for spelling and number, we will be revising addition/subtraction/division and multiplication. We will also be revising the ‘au’ sound and ‘aw’ sound.

Another Fantastic Week 🙂

Pupil Voice:

CJ- I enjoyed learning our Christmas songs.

EM- I loved doing maths this week and learning about dividing. I enjoyed the pizza task.

BK- I liked learning our new sound ‘au’, my favourite word was haunted.

LS- I liked building my flying car during play.

LB- I made a magnetic block airplane during play and it was really fun.

Room 19

Thank you to Eden, Gloria and Sophia for this week’s post.

On Monday 14th November we did PE. We played prisoner dodgeball with Miss Macfarlane.  In the morning, we did our IOW(Improving Our Writing) and we also got our new spelling words and practised them with partners. Also we started our new book The Abominables.

On Tuesday we did IOW again,we started run-ons and a run-on is a sentence that is missing punctuation and connectives.  We had to turn the run-on sentences into punctuated sentences.

On Wednesday we did time with Miss Hutton and we also did IOW with Miss Higgins. The boys went to football and while they were there the rest of us finished off work for our showcase.

On Thursday we had Miss O’Brien and did IOW and it was run-ons.  Then Miss Higgins came in and we finished off stuff for the showcase. Then our parents came in for our showcase and some people got to go home early.

On Friday it was Wear It Bright Day. Then we did a math game and went for PE. After PE we went to see the new fishes and did IOW which was run-ons,then we went to assembly.

A busy week in Room 2!

Room 2 have been very creative during their play opportunities this week. In our class we have a construction, creative and role play area set up which we enjoy exploring.

This week, three boys showed great teamwork and perseverance (which is one of our school values!) to complete this pirate themed jigsaw. We think it looks fabulous and we have left it in the cloakroom for others to see.

In our construction area, we have been building amazing structures using wooden blocks and Lego.

Here is an amazing airport which some of the boys worked together on. It even features an airport shuttle bus and aircraft hangar.

Today we also marked ‘Wear it Bright Day’ to highlight the importance of dressing brightly during the Winter months.

We came to school wearing our brightest clothing from hi-vis vests to light up hair accessories. Thank you for all your efforts with this, you looked amazing! MM in our class was voted the brightest person and she received a certificate and amazing bag filled with goodies.

We also designed our own bright colourful helmets which would be seen visibly in the dark. Here is IJ’s bright helmet.

Have a lovely weekend everyone! 🙂

Room 11 have had another busy week rounding off our topic on the Vikings before we start all things Christmas 🙂

We made some helmets and swords from cardboard and learnt about the Viking Gods and Godesess.

In Maths, we started to learn about angles.  We can identify right angles around us and also group angles into categories of acute, obtuse and 90 degrees.

We have also started learning our songs for the Christmas Concert- please ask your child about this and help them to learn the words at home if you have time!

For Wear it Bright Day, all the kids made loads of effort to dress brightly and the winner in Room 11 was Oscar C!

Today in Room 5, our families came in to visit us to celebrate Book Week. They had so much fun exploring their bags and reading with you.

Thank you to each and every one of you who came to take part, it is always so lovely to have you in especially to read with the children. Please do not worry if you didn’t make it. And a special thank you to Fraser’s Mum who brought in some books for us to read in class.

Thank you also for your permission to share some lovely photographs of you and your children reading.

Room 1 – 14.11.25

This week in Room 1 we have:

  • Used the INDIs to help us blend our sounds to make words (check the videos below)
  • Answered some of our ‘big questions’ about what makes the world wonderful. We have explored rainbows, flowers and now we are learning about animals. Look at the way we sorted the animals
  • Used number lines in numeracy to help with addition
  • Identified sentences ✅ and fragments ❌. We worked together to fix the fragments.

Today we enjoyed celebrating Children in Need.

A reminder that we are inviting parents/families in next week for Book Week to spend time reading and exploring our amazing Bookbug bags! 📚📖

REMINDERS

Primary 1 Nativity – As we approach the upcoming nativity performances, we kindly request your support in helping your child learn their lines. It is important that each pupil is confident with their lines, as this will help our practice sessions run more smoothly and allow them to fully participate in rehearsals. If you could take some time at home to go over the lines with your child, it would be greatly appreciated.

Room 4 BookBug Session – Monday 17th November, 2:00pm-2:45pm. One family member per child.

Wear It Bright Day – Friday 21st November. Children can come to school wearing the brightest clothes they have, including reflective items.

Thank you for reading our blog. Have a great weekend!
