Mapping

Hello Everyone,

In Room 11 we have been working hard to develop our mapping skills. We worked in pairs using an Atlas to locate some key cities and rivers on a map of Scotland.

Next week we are looking forward to our school trip, as well as our showcase on Thursday.

Have a lovely weekend and we look forward to seeing you next week, to share some of our learning!

Room 2 Learn About Data!

We have been learning about data.

“Data is information that we gather for a specific reason.” M ( Miss Lockhart is jumping for joy that I remember this!)

Today I asked the learners in Room 2 about their pets at home.

“Miss Lockhart asked a question and we gathered the data.” A

We can now analyse our data, here are some of our findings.

“The most popular pets were dogs.” M

“The least popular pets were hamsters and rabbits because nobody had them.”

“6 people have no pets.” E

We can record our answers using tally marks too, have a look below at some of our examples.

Busy bees 🐝

Over the past week, Room 6 have been very busy with their learning and wanted to share their favourite parts, this being our topic lesson, French and Health and Wellbeing.

In French, we have been recapping all that has been learned this year so far, such as greetings, feelings, numbers to 10, days of the week and months of the year. We have been getting better and better at remembering this vocabulary and have enjoyed having our class puppet, Franc, giving us new words to learn. On Friday, the focus was on French colours. First of all, we were exposed to crayon colours which helped us to match the word to the colour. Next, we had a whole class game of splat on the board to test our memory. We really enjoyed this! After we had practised the colours, we completed an animal colouring sheet and wordsearch on ‘Les Coleurs’. Room 6 love wordsearches! We look forward to using these new French words in our daily routines.

As part of our ‘Chocolate’ topic, we have been learning about the Tunnock’s factory which we were pleased to know isn’t far from the school at all. We had a discussion about Tunnock’s products and researched the website to see what other information we could find. We were most interested in a Tunnock’s Tea Cake and a Tunnock’s Caramel Wafer as most of us have tried at least one of these before. Thank you to everyone who has brought in Tunnock’s wrappers for our display board, our collection really does look amazing! We are looking forward to continuing our topic by looking at Fairtrade next.

We have been learning about how to have a healthy lifestyle in Health and Wellbeing this term. So far we have broken down ways to stay healthy and have looked at areas such as exercise and a balanced diet. Yesterday, the focus was on the importance of sleep and we definitely learned a lot. We found out that sleep can really affect our mood, growth and concentration. We also learned that children need on average about 11 hours of sleep a night while adults need less. We then discussed the best way to prepare yourself for bed by doing things such as dimming the lights, listening to calming music and reading a book. The most interesting part was the facts about some animals and their sleeping habits, we were shocked! Did you know that bats are nocturnal and sleep for 20 hours a day? Also, dolphins sleep for 10 hours a day but only rest half their brain at a time so that one side is always awake. They can even sleep with one eye open!

Here are some comments on our learning over the last week (Room 6 have really been enjoying using percentages to show how much they liked each task!) :

NG – I liked the song in music.
AbS, RF – I 100% loved when we were practising In the Groove.
OM, RF, CM, IW – I 100% loved doing the French colours.
IR – I 88% liked doing the French colours as well.
QO – I 100% loved learning about sleep.
EL – I loved learning about sleep.
BrM – I 200% loved learning about sleep.
BlM – I liked doing the new version of In the Groove.
ND – I loved learning about the animals when they sleep.
FD – I 2000% loved the new version of In the Groove.
MM –  I 1290% liked learning the French colours.
MMu – I 1 billion % loved doing the French colours.
HG – I really really really loved doing the fitness exercises for PE.

Enjoy the rest of your week!

Learning Festival – 24th April 3.30-5pm

Following the results of the survey completed by many at parents’ evening last November, we have planned a Learning Festival for 24th April. We would encourage you to come along anytime between 3.30pm – 5pm to find out more about how we teach and learn at Newton Farm Primary. We will have a focus on Numeracy, Literacy and STEM as these were the areas of the curriculum which were most requested by parents/carers. We hope you’re able to join us.

Eat Them to Defeat Them

Eat them to defeat them parent carer info

Dear parents/carers,

This month we are taking part in eat them to defeat them. This is a campaign to support children to try new vegetables. You may have seen adverts on TV about this recently.

Every child will be sent home with a pack which contains information and a reward chart.

There will also be stickers available in the lunch hall for anyone who tries the vegetable of choice for that day.

Room 13 16.02.24

Hello all.

We’ve been busy over the last few weeks. In Numeracy, we have been multiplying 2 digit numbers by 2 and 5. We moved on to multiplying by 10 and 100 and that is what is in some of the pictures. We have just started recapping telling the time and will do more of this going forward.

In Literacy, we have been doing opinion writing. We gave our opinion on a given statement and included a reason for our opinion.

For Topic, we have started learning some facts about the Waverley. We have also started mapping places in Scotland and will map the Waverley’s west coast route next week. We are going to make a drama which we hope to perform at the P3 showcase a week on Thursday.

Have a great weekend,.

Mr Dalling.
