The Waverley ⛴️

Hello Everyone,

This week in Room 11 we have been learning a little bit more about the Waverley.

This year marks its 50th anniversary since being saved for preservation.

We created a timeline to detail the history of the boat, as well as researching the different locations – and things to do at each – from its famous “Doon the Watter” excursion.

We hope you have a lovely weekend!

Room 21 – P6 Trip to the Burrell Collection

March 22, 2024 by Miss Napier | 0 comments

On Wednesday, the P6s of Room 21 went on a trip to the Burrell Collection. We’ve been studying European artists so it was great to get the chance to see Sir William Burrell’s collection as that includes many European artefacts. We took part in an ‘Art in Nature’ workshop, creating our own little sketchbooks and drawing in them as we learned about different artists and their styles of work. We got to see some of Auguste Rodin’s sculptures, including ‘The Thinker’ that we based our clay models on in class. We also got the chance to spend some time in the play park before the bus came to pick us up! All in, we had a great day!

Room 9 Science Activity

Last week was Science week in school, so we got to do lots of activities throughout the week. Our favourite activity was when the STEM ambassadors from P7 came to help us learn about the moon.

We found out that the moon orbits the Earth and this creates different moon phases. There are 8 phases of the moon.  The first phase is a new moon, then the waxing crescent, first quarter, waxing gibbous, a full moon, waning gibbous, third quarter and then the waning crescent. Once all the phases have been completed, we then start the cycle all over again.

To help us remember the moon phases, the STEM ambassadors got us to make a craft plate showing all the different phases. Here are some of our pictures.

Isla really enjoyed the activity because she loves Science. She brings in her favourite Science book every day and we learn a new fact almost every day.

Our Week in Room 21

On Monday, we all took part in a Shinty tournament, putting together all our learning from the last few weeks. (Ollie)

We had a go at still-life drawings and tried to make a vase of flowers look at as real as possible. This is called Realism and is like the style of paintings Edouard Manet. (Connor & Kayla)

In maths we were finding acute, obtuse and right angles in geometric animal shapes. Then we were learning how to use a protractor to measure angles. (Daisy & Noah)

We took part in a sponsored obstacle course on Friday, to raise money for school funds. (Pippa)

Some of us decorated eggs to enter into the Parent Council Easter Egg competition. We can’t wait to see who our class winner is! (Aaron)

Water Lilies and Indi

We have been learning about different European artists as part of our Scotland and Europe topic. Based in the work of Claude Monet, we made our own water lilies.

We also had a lot of fun learning with Indi. Indi is a robotic car that can be programmed using coloured floor tiles. First we had to work out what each tile did, then we created some pathways of our own. The Indi challenge cards we used, had paths to follow but we had to work out what tiles were missing to get to the end tile and complete the task.

Our Room 16 blog

Written by the children in Room 16.

Welcome to Room 16’s amazing blog, this week we had our Easter obstacle course. It was very very fun. We have also been creating Easter eggs for a competition and we can’t wait to reveal the winner.

We have been reading our new books in literacy and have been predicting the next chapters.

With Miss Riley, we have been colouring and decorating Easter bunnies as well.

In maths we have been learning how to carry in division and have introduced remainders in our sums.

We have been doing listening and talking with our floor books by showing who is a listener and talker by looking at information to get facts. Our latest topic is all about explorers.

Thank you for reading our blog and I hope you all have a great Easter holiday.

Room 1

Good afternoon everyone,

THERE IS A THIEF IN ROOM ONE!

Today the boys and girls arrived to no tables or chairs in our class. We were shocked to think that there had been a thief in our classroom. We decided to find our what happened.

We talked about what a thief might look like.

CO ” He might have a mask.”

KM “He has a strippy jumper.”

We discussed what we could do to help us find the thief.

LW ” We made poster of a bad guy.” (thief)

We have been learning about the structure of  a sentence and all had a go at writing our own sentence about what happened in our class. “The thief has took my table from room 1.”

Then boys and girls were being detectives to hunt for clues and went round the school to find out any information about the thief.

CS “We went round the school to see if they knew where the thief was.”

SS ” Room 5 told us he has dark hair and is tall.”

After reading the story the Detective Dog, the boys and girls talked about what had happened and realised that the tables might not be stolen but borrowed.  Our janitor had borrowed them for an event in the school.

Room 1 really enjoyed their morning being detectives and were very excited to use their learning in this fun way.

Please see some pictures below.

Thank you!

Mrs Ventre
