Newton Farm Primary School and Nursery Class

Room 8’s Wonderful Week

We have learned lots this week!

In maths we have been learning to add 19 and 21 using friendly numbers.

We have been revising our phonemes this week. We have practiced th, ea, wa, wr, and tch. We practiced these using active strategies! We completed dictated sentences to show how well we know our sounds.

We have been text detectives- skimming and scanning our reading books for 2,3,4 and 5 letter words. We also hunted for our spelling sounds.

On Wednesday, Mrs Calder came to work with us. We learned all about Andy Goldsworthy. He is a famous sculptor and photographer. We collected materials from our playground, like leaves, rocks, grass, twigs and hay, and made our very own sculpted art.

We have been looking at one of the nurture principles- language is a vital means of communication. We have been practicing using our Makaton signs to say how we feel and have been learning the signs to ‘This is Me’.

We joined in with room 7 to do some yoga. Our favourite poses were the tree, warrior, butterfly, mountain, table and child’s pose.

This afternoon we got the chance to work with other children and teachers during our pupil voice group sessions. We had great fun making new friends and learning new things!
