Newton Farm Primary School and Nursery Class

Second Week in Room 20

In Room 20, we’ve been thinking of and making our own Maths hopscotch games.  We planned them out on our whiteboards, it was up to us to choose what kind of maths we wanted to include in it.  We played them altogether as a class and tried out what other people made.  Today we are going to try our games outside for real.

We have also also been learning about Place Value with numbers up to millions.  We’ve used magic number sticks and place value boards to count up and down in large amounts e.g. millions, hundred thousands.

To link in with our reading of ‘The Nowhere Emporium’, we made art work using collage to create fancy doors similar to the doors in the emporium.  We used different colours of paper, cut out different shapes and put these together to make detailed doors.

We started our block of narrative writing, with a focus on describing the setting and having an exciting start.  We concentrated on a mysterious building, inspired by the shop from the Nowhere Emporium.  It was really fun and Mr. JC was impressed with the range of exciting starting sentences and the detailed descriptions.

We also finished our Class Charter display, which was themed from Spongebob.  Mr. JC put up our display and its amazing because it includes the characters but also includes us.  This is important, because the charter belongs to us.

We also started our spelling programme this week.  We were learning about affixes.  We learned about prefixes, which are a group of letters that go at the front of a word to make a new word.  We also learned about suffixes, which is a when you add on the group of letters at the end to make a new word.  The suffix we learned was ‘able/ible’ which means to be capable of.  The prefix we learned was a- which means on or in.  We did dictation of these words today for the first time.  Our spelling homework starts in a couple of weeks.

It’s been a good second week and we are sure we will have the same fun every week!

Please leave us a comment to let us know what you thought of our week. 😁
