Social Work Adult Residential and Registered Services Workshop – 2nd July 2019

14/08/2019

Managers and supervisors working across Social Work adult residential and registered services came together for an afternoon workshop focused on workforce development.

The agenda covered:

  • A review of workforce learning and development needs, including registration requirements, mandatory and core training alongside more specific and specialist learning and development activities linked to roles, responsibilities and developing practice
  • A focused discussion on services commitment towards the development of the young workforce and supporting further development in relation to health and social care career pathways. This featured mentoring with thought given to how this could be further developed across services and employees encouraged to access the distance learning mentoring course currently offered free by Forth Valley College.
  • A spotlight on modern learning drawing on a range of methods such as online modules, work and team based learning and traditional training. Time was allocated to discuss the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) learning zone and in particular the Open Badge programme where learners can have their continuous learning and development recognised through the assessment of short pieces of written reflective practice leading to electronic certification and the opportunity to develop a learning portfolio.

Evaluation of the session……

A follow up session is planned for 16th August 2019 when a short life working group will meet and use the feedback from the workshop to identify next steps and inform the learning and development programme for 2019-20.
