FAQs

How long will attaining this qualification take?
Which SVQ Award a candidate is on will determine how long the qualification takes. This is recorded on the candidates working agreement.
SVQ Level 2: 6-9 months
SVQ Level 3: 9 – 12 months
SVQ Level 4: 12-18 months

How many units have I got to complete?
This is also dependent on the candidate’s SVQ Award

SVQ Level 2: There are 4 mandatory units, and 2 optional units.
SVQ Level 3: There are 4 mandatory units, and 4 optional units.
SVQ Level 4: There are 4 mandatory units, and 4 optional units.
SVQ Level 4 Care Services for Leadership & Management: There are 4 mandatory units, and 4 optional units.

Are there any exams or tests?
There are no exams or tests. You are expected to write about your practice – guided by your assessor and detailed on your assessment plan following a support meeting with your assessor. You will be writing about the tasks you carry out within your job role. There is no ‘word count’ or length of written work, everybody is different, and your style of writing will be developed with support from your assessor.

How often will I meet with my assessor?
Support meetings with your assessor generally happen every 2 weeks at SVQ Level 2 and SVQ Level 3. Between these meetings you will be expected to complete written work agreed with your assessor and send it to them so that they can read it over before your next support meetings. Candidates doing SVQ Level 4 or SVQ Level 4 LMC awards will meet with their assessor every 2-3 weeks.

What if I need to stop halfway through?
Do not panic! Everybody has circumstances that can impact on their SVQ award – either personal or relating to work demands. A 15 minute review will be chaired by your Internal Verifier and an agreement reached as to how long you will be placed ‘on hold’. Your assessor will plan when to meet with you again to continue your SVQ award.
