Oceans in P6B

This week P6B looked at the layers of the ocean and all the wonderful animals that live there! We labelled a diagram that showed the 5 different layers of the ocean, and now we are working on a class display!

We used our iPads to research marine life and drew pictures of them that will be displayed on our topic wall. They will be placed within the ocean zone that they live in. We have worked incredibly hard on this and the drawings are beautiful!

See us next week for the finished result!

Sustainability at Wallacewell

Primary 5 are developing sustainably at Wallacewell this term. We are growing flowers from seeds that are good for insects and birds. We need your help.

We are looking for plant pots to help us grow our seedlings in bigger pot. Primary 5 would be very grateful if you could donate any plant pots.
Thank you for your kind consideration.

P4b

It has been a busy week in P4b where we have taken part in lots of new learning and made the most of the lovely weather.

I enjoyed creating symmetrical pictures and paintings. Jessica

I know that symmetry is when you get the mirror image on the opposite side of the shape. Charlie

We can check if something is symmetrical using a mirror along the centre. Cooper L

A line of symmetry goes through the centre of the object. You can get more than one line of symmetry sometimes. Ruaridh R

We went outside to explore and took photos of symmetry in our environment. Some patterns and symmetry were in nature and some were in man-made objects. Finn

We drew the lines of symmetry on our photos of flowers, leaves, the climbing frame, benches and lots more. Poppy

Miss Bruce has taught us about primary and secondary sources and this will help us research for our personal projects. We will be using our writing skills to take notes and create a project. I am reporting on Hades. Drew

I am happy that we get to choose what we want to learn about. Samuel

P4b

We can’t quite believe it’s the end of Term 3! We have had an amazing term filled with lots of learning and made more fantastic memories.

I liked making Viking artefacts out of clay and painting them when they were dry. Jessica

In the playroom we used playdoh to stretch, squeeze, push and pull which helped us learn forces. Cooper S

We did a fractions assessment and I liked it because we got to show what we had learned. Bella

I was very happy to see new Dog Man books in the library – I’ve read 4 already!! Ryan

I finished my library book and was happy because it was a good book. Finn

Fractions have been fun and each time we learnt about them we learnt even more. Poppy

I wish you all a restful and safe Spring Break and can’t wait to see you again for Term 4!

Lots of love Mrs Wightman

Digital committee

The digital committee ran a competition about ‘safe use apps’ where children could choose their favourite app to recommend or design their own. The entries were all fantastic and the digital committee had a very hard job choosing the winners. There was one winner for each class p4-7 and our overall winner! Well done everyone!

P4a Update

It has been a busy and exciting couple of weeks in P4a! In writing, we have been creating engaging non-chronological reports, developing our research and writing skills. We have been focused on using connectives and different openers to make our writing even more interesting.
In maths, we’ve been exploring 2D and 3D shapes while continuing our work on fractions.
During PE, we’ve been lucky to have a football coach helping us develop new skills.    As part of our Viking topic, we have advertised Viking longhouses and learned about the Battle of Largs. We even wrote diary entries from the perspective of Scots preparing for battle.
We have also had the chance to visit our lovely library and choose some new books to enjoy!

I can use the Bar Model strategy to show a fraction. Even hard work like for P6! Sara

I enjoyed developing my passing skills in Football this week. Lots of people worked very hard. Ruaridh R

I enjoyed creating a poster with the facts about Easter. We got to decorate it like a giant Easter egg. Jessica

I liked learning how Easter eggs popular to represent parts of the Easter story. Bella

I really liked working out Equivalent Fractions by using strategies and remembering whatever you do to the numerator you also do to the denominator. Samuel

I enjoyed learning about Fractions. Maisie

Only one person in class would choose to have a real egg instead of a chocolate egg – and it isn’t Mrs Wightman!!
