P4a Update

It has been a busy and exciting couple of weeks in P4a! In writing, we have been creating engaging non-chronological reports, developing our research and writing skills. We have been focused on using connectives and different openers to make our writing even more interesting.
In maths, we’ve been exploring 2D and 3D shapes while continuing our work on fractions.
During PE, we’ve been lucky to have a football coach helping us develop new skills.    As part of our Viking topic, we have advertised Viking longhouses and learned about the Battle of Largs. We even wrote diary entries from the perspective of Scots preparing for battle.
We have also had the chance to visit our lovely library and choose some new books to enjoy!

This Week in P7a

This week we completed our abstract self portraits and reflected on how the colours represent our own personalities.

We’ve explored BSL (British Sign Language) in the creative enquiry room.

We were all successful in our transformation assessment and developed settings for our upcoming short stories.

P4b

We’ve been learning about Fractions. I know the Numerator and Denominator make up the fraction. Finn

I can use the Bar Model strategy to show a fraction. Even hard work like for P6! Sara

I enjoyed developing my passing skills in Football this week. Lots of people worked very hard. Ruaridh R

I enjoyed creating a poster with the facts about Easter. We got to decorate it like a giant Easter egg. Jessica

I liked learning how Easter eggs popular to represent parts of the Easter story. Bella

I really liked working out Equivalent Fractions by using strategies and remembering whatever you do to the numerator you also do to the denominator. Samuel

I enjoyed learning about Fractions. Maisie

I liked Art and dancing. Maria

Only one person in class would choose to have a real egg instead of a chocolate egg – and it isn’t Mrs Wightman!!

This week P5b managed to continue some of their symmetry tasks outside before the weather changed for the worse! Revision of the 4 operations is ongoing. In literacy P5b were learning to write a newspaper report about a natural disaster. I have been impressed with their progress.

Everyone enjoys Thursday afternoon as we have STEM in the creativity room . Lots of learning and fun.    Mrs. Jodah

This Week in P7a

This week we’ve been focusing on collating data and displaying it using a range of graphs.

We’ve made a real effort to develop our communication skills through team games, by giving encouragement and constructive criticism.

We created detailed character profiles to be used in our upcoming short stories.

This Week in P7a

This week we’ve been learning about co-ordinates in 4 quadrants, and using this information to create pictures of beloved Disney characters. As well as this we developed our understanding of probability.

To continue in our artistic vein, we created abstract self portraits using our learning about line, colour and shade.

As part of our P.A.T.H.S course we’ve been finding “win win” solutions to conflict resolution scenarios.

P5b

This week P5b have been continuing their writing, learning skills to write a report about Natural Disasters. They have used the information they previously collected using note taking skills. There has been a good effort to produce an interesting report by everyone.

In Mathematics P5b are now completing money and have moved from angles to learn about coordinates. This should lead us to map reading and sometime outside focusing on orienteering. Fingers crossed the weather is kind to us!

This is the last week of the Forces topic. The children have enjoyed the theme to then go off and plan their own learning on a Thursday afternoon.

P4a Weekly Update

It’s been a fun and exciting week in P4a! On Wednesday, we had a fantastic trip to the Glasgow Science Centre. There was so much to do and explore!
Back in class, we planted flowers and wrote clear instructions on how to do it.
In maths, we’ve started learning about fractions, focusing on equivalent fractions and how different fractions can represent the same value.
We had a wonderful time celebrating World Book Day and we were thrilled to have author, Rob Biddulph visit today. We even learned how to draw a rhinoceros in a top hat! Now, we feel inspired to write and illustrate our own stories.

P3a

Last week we were lucky to get a visit from the Zoolab and met 6 different animals. We learned lots of interesting facts and got to hold or touch some of the animals.

In writing we have continued on with our recount writing which is going well. We have also been working on verb and verb tenses to help with our writing.

In maths we have been comparing angles as well as learning and using compass points.

Lastly we finished our Scottish topic by listening to traditional and modern Scottish music and talked about what we did and didn’t like about it, used the iPads to research Scottish Landmarks and created a timeline of some Scottish inventions.  We are now about to begin our new topic which is ‘The Vikings

This Week in P7a

This week we’ve been absolutely nailing procedural writing, creating detailed sets of instructions for games and recipes.

Our golf game continues to improve, and we’re now capable of playing short rounds over longer distances.

In numeracy we’ve been using protractors to accurately measure angles, and draw triangles from given specifications.
