MESSAGE SENT ON BEHALF OF THE PARENT COUNCIL AT WALLACEWELL PRIMARY – March 2024

MESSAGE SENT ON BEHALF OF THE PARENT COUNCIL AT WALLACEWELL PRIMARY

Dear Families,

We would like to draw your attention to two important pieces of information.

The first pertains to the recently announced budget cuts that will have a catastrophic impact on the children of Glasgow and our children at Wallacewell Primary. Within our recent Parent Council minutes we have outlined the action we plan to take.

PC Minutes – 18.03.24

We would like to encourage parents/carers to send letters to Councillors, MSPs, and Executive Officers. Please find below a draft letter that you may wish to use along with a list of email addresses to send your letters too.

GCC EDUCATION SERVICES BUDGET CUTS – Parent Carer Letter March 2024

4. Email addresses for budget cuts letters

The Glasgow City Parents Group have also created some draft letters that you can access on their twitter page. We would also encourage parents/carers to attend one or both of the budget cut demonstrations being held at George Square this week – Tuesday the 26th of March at 4pm and Thursday the 28th of March at 12.30pm. We need as many people to attend these events as possible to stand up to the proposed budget cuts and ensure our voices are heard.

We would also like to draw parent/carers attention to the Public Meeting arranged for the 18th of April 2024. The Parent Council would like to encourage ALL parents/carers to attend this meeting on Thursday the 18th April 2024 at 7pm at Wallacewell Primary, to discuss the issues relation to education provision that currently impact on the residents and children of Robroyston. These issues impact on all school aged pupils in the local area and will continue to in the future if action is not taken. The focus of the meeting will be as follows –

  • The negative impact of the recently announced education budget cuts on all children in the area
  • The capacity of the local primary and impact any increasing numbers will have on the service delivery and future enrolments
  • The lack of transport to get pupils safely to the feeder high school— Smithycroft Secondary School

Representatives from Glasgow City Council and Local Builders have been invited. Various media outlets have also been invited to the meeting, BUT we need you and your views. Children are also welcome at this meeting. This is your opportunity to share your concerns.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us on – wallacewellpsparentcouncil@glow.sch.uk

Thank you.

Sincerely

Wallacewell Primary Parent Council

Easter Message – March 2024

A very wet week!

As usual P5a have been working very hard this cold week. Despite the chilly conditions we were able to practise our skills about perimeter in the playground. A great way to enjoy learning!

Today we completed our Space topic and everyone was able to show their work.
Next week weather permitting we will start to plant some seeds in the plots behind the P5 classrooms.🤞

All in a good week

This week, P5 went outside to learn about reading grid maps and this time we added using a compass. Everyone enjoyed the learning even in the rain! ☔️ Next week we have planned to include the pitch with the maps, weather permitting!
The road safety team came to Wallacewell and we all enjoyed a quiz! These lucky 4 are the winning team.

On Tuesday 2 pupils from P5a went to the CIty Chambers to make a movie about road safety around the school. The whole class had supported and contributed to their script and film.

Well done Rosie and Ollie

What a week!

This has certainly been a very interesting week. On Tuesday primary 5 received their first coaching experience from the Rangers Team. Everyone enjoyed and learned from the experience.  World Book Day on Thursday was a fantastic opportunity to share our thoughts and experiences around reading books 📚.
Although it was a cold day P5 took part in an orienteering lesson outside to learn around coordinates. I think it was a great success and weather permitting we will continue with this next Friday
