Singing our hearts out!
An end to another busy week in Primary 1a.
This week we have been revising number, writing our predictions for the story of Tadpole’s Promise and learning about living things.
We have been learning about the Sikh festival of Vaisakhi.
In amongst all of our hard work, we have created some spectacular art which helped us to label the parts of a plant.
We also recorded The Glasgow Song which we have been practising with the help of our fabulous music tutor. This song has been written to celebrate the 850th anniversary of the city.
We went on a bear hunt
This week we listened to the story We’re going on a bear hunt.
We had our very own bear hunt around the school grounds. Not only did we find a bear in his cave but we saw two deer running through the grass. It was very exciting.
We used this to inspire our writing and create a story map.
We also looked at the beautiful blossom on the trees in the playground to create our art.

Parents Evening Update – March 2025
Thank you to all of our families who attended our Parents Evening over the last couple of weeks. It was lovely to see so many of you.
We value the experience to meet with families to discuss pupil progress and next steps in learning. If for any reason you were unable to attend your scheduled appointment, please contact the school to arrange a mutually suitable time to meet with your child’s Class Teacher.
Thank you also to everyone who engaged in our Family Learning Consultation. 95% of families who participate felt that they would benefit from a Family Learning website, that demonstrates ways in which parents/carers can engage in learning with their children. As a result of this feedback we have started to create our bespoke website that we plan to launch in Term 4 of this session.
Nurture at Wallacewell Primary – What does it mean?
Today at assembly we have been learning about one of our values – NURTURE.
We know that to grow and develop we all need NURTURE.
We know that to be NURTURED means you have a caring and stimulating place to live and grow.
We know that part of being NURTURED is being recognised that you are unique.
We all want and need to be NURTURED. It helps us to grow and develop.
Time for change
The season has officially changed and as part of our topic we have been looking at how things change around us with each season.
We have also looked at the water cycle and how rain is created as part of this. We are learning words like evaporation, condensation and precipitation.
We are also very lucky to have support from our music tutor who is teaching us a song to celebrate Glasgow’s 850th birthday so listen for the children singing this around the house.

Attendance Update – February 2025
World Book Day
Another great week in primary 1. Lots of learning in our usual ways…counting, spelling, reading, writing. To top it all this week, it was World Book Day.
We came to school dressed as our favourite book characters or in pyjamas. Some brought their favourite book to share with the class.
We looked through books to find special characters in our Book Scavenger Hunt.
A great day was had by everyone.

Improving Attendance – Every Day Counts
At Wallacewell Primary we are passionate about getting it right for the pupils we work with. In order for us to meet learners needs, we require pupils to be in school and on time each day. Missing school negatively impacts on pupils academic, emotional and social development.
