SCHOOL TRANSPORT ASSISTANCE

We to remind families about the School Travel Assistance provided by Glasgow City Council (GCC). GCC provide transport for children and young people who live more than 1.2 miles from their local catchment primary school by the shortest suitable walking route and more than 2.2 miles from their local catchment secondary school by the shortest suitable walking route. This is slightly more generous than the statutory obligation.

Further information about School Travel Assistance, and details on how to apply if you think you may be eligible can be found on the following webpage –

https://www.glasgow.gov.uk/article/5505/School-Travel-Assistance

We would like to encourage all families who believe they are eligible to apply. This will also help to alleviate some of the road traffic issues we see at the beginning and end of the school day.

Community Development Student @Wallacewell (2024-25)

We are delighted to introduce Anna Byatt to our School Community. Anna is from the University of Glasgow and will be working in partnership with us this year to support our local community to identify, understand and act on issues impacting our local community with a focus on –

  • Play & Recreation

  • Facilities & Amenities

  • Traffic & Parking

  • Identity & Belonging

Keep up to date with Anna’s and the schools Community Development work on the Community Development section on our school website.

Hello, my name is Anna Byatt and I am excited to join the Wallacewell Primary School team. I am currently a year 3 student at The University of Glasgow, studying Community Development, which includes both classroom and placement-based learning. This year my placement is here at Wallacewell Primary School.

Throughout the duration of my course I have had the opportunity to experience placements in various sectors, organisations and locations – locally, globally and internationally. So far, as part of my University studies I have visited Belfast, India and this year plan to visit Kentucky to analyse how communities engage in different settings.

I am particularly interested in the educational aspects of Community Development. Education has always been a passion of mine, perhaps influenced from a young age by my Dad who is a primary school teacher, During my placement this year, my main focus will be on enhancing engagement with the school community and surrounding areas to help bring the community to life.

If you have any ideas for improving community connections within the school environment or even just to meet me for a chat, feel free to contact me via email. I am excited about embarking on my journey at Wallacewell Primary School!

Email: AByatt@glow.sch.uk

A bit more about me – I am 23, I love to travel, I have a passion for sport, one of my favourite spots for a walk or run is Hogganfield Loch especially when I get to see the sunset across the water. I enjoy fun outdoor activities, particularly those that involve a bit of a risk! I consider myself a hands-on person, so the practical aspects of placement throughout my course suits my approach. I enjoy exploring the Community Development theories, ideologies and values and putting them into practice, which aligns closely with the educational values and ethos. I am a very sociable person, therefore working with people is the path I wanted to pursue as I have a passion for helping others find their confidence and the tools to empower themselves.

I look forward to meeting everyone and contributing to the Wallacewell Primary School community and improving community links going forward.

FUNDRAISING AT WALLACEWELL PRIMARY WITH ASDA

Dear Families,

We’ve got some exciting news to share with you!

Parentkind, a charity that supports school communities, have teamed up with Asda, who is making millions of pounds available to donate to primary schools across the UK through their ‘Cashpot for Schools’ initiative. To support our school, all you have to do is opt-in through the Asda Rewards app, shop and scan in store or shop online at Asda.com.

Between 2nd September and 30th November 2024 – every time you shop with Asda using your Asda Rewards app, Asda will donate 0.5% of the value of your shop to your chosen Primary school. Also, every time somebody opts-in to support our Primary school, Asda will give an additional £1 to the school Cashpot. Plus, it doesn’t stop there – Asda are also giving £50 to every school to get them started.

It’s as easy as 1,2,3
1. Download the Asda Rewards app, register and opt-in to Cashpot for Schools. Make sure you have the latest version of the app installed.
2. Choose our Primary School. Either searching by name (Wallacewell Primary) or postcode (G21 3RH)
3. Shop instore across Asda and George, or online at Asda.com and start filling your Cashpot as you shop

Asda does the rest, all money raised will be donated to our school to spend on the things we need the most.

Remember, anyone can sign up – so start spreading the news and raising funds for our school.
This initiative is on top of the existing Asda Rewards benefits you get as a shopper – so you won’t lose out on any of your own earnings or Cashpot, so everyone is a winner!

For more details, visit asda.com/cashpotforschools

As always thank you for your continued support.

Yours
