BGE
S1-S3 drama involves learning about how to use your voice and movement to create realistic and believable characters. You will also learn about drama terminology such as genre, conventions and form. You will then be given the opportunity to perform improvised and scripted dramas to your peers and you will offer feedback on these performances to build one anther confidence within the subject. The drama department also have a fully equipped studio that has lighting and sound equipment and various set, props and costume that you will use to develop your performances.
Senior Phase
Senior pupils are given the opportunity to sit National 3, 4, 5 and Higher drama. These courses involve creating and developing your own drama and using production skills to enhance them and also analysing and performing scripted plays. You will attend the theatre regularly to appreciate and analyse performances.
Trips to the theatre
We provide opportunities to see a wide range of productions from Glasgow’s local theatres such as taking S1-3 to an annual Pantomime. We also provide the opportunity for senior school to see touring productions. S4/5 pupils are attending ‘The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time’ this year.
Extra rehearsals and supported study
The Drama department offers weekly supported study sessions during lunch and after school to provide young people with extra help with written and practical work.
Senior pupils are also provided with multiple rehearsal spaces during and after school where we work with them in depth to help direct and develop- their dramatic scenes.
Careers:
Drama develops confidence, resilience, teamwork and analytical skills that are transferable to any workplace or further education. By giving pupils the opportunity to develop their public speaking and interview skills. Some of the careers that you could move on to include acting, community arts worker, drama therapist or even a teacher.
