Learning for Sustainability Week at Balornock will begin on Monday 30th April. This will be an all encompassing themed week for our pupils addressing learning within Eco Schools, RRS and HWB. Pupils will be undertaking various activities including nature walks, yoga, designing a school mascot, etc. This is sure to be an exciting week for everyone with lots of fantastic learning experiences for our pupils. This week in literacy we have been learning all about magic ‘e’. It changes the sound of vowels to their letter name. We have been focusing on ‘i_e’. During writing we have been looking at characters and their descriptions. Not even the fire alarm and standing in the rain stopped us enjoying our paired reading with P6. We cant wait to take our favourite books to read with them next time.
We had a very busy term 3 full of lots of fun and lots of learning. Here are some of our favourite term 3 moments!! Primary 2 have been loving using our new maths resources to help us as we add and subtract up to 13! Two of us showed off our fab reading by choosing and reading a story to the whole class. Well done Lacey and Elle!
You may have noticed that some ‘new’ bins have recently appeared in our lunch hall?…. The Eco Heroes have decided to take steps towards helping minimise the amount of food being wasted in our school by encouraging everyone at Balornock to put on their Eco thinking caps when clearing up after they have eaten! We now have three separate bins in our lunch hall and would encourage everyone to use accordingly.
Primary 2 have been learning how to ask someone their name, and how to reply in French! As it’s literacy week in Balornock we thought we could try it with some of our favourite book and film characters! We loved it! Ask us about it when you see us! We’d love to teach you too!

What a fantastic morning at Balornock Primary. Hopskotch Theatre Company visited us to perform their Christmas Pantomime The Wizard of Oz. We all thoroughly enjoyed us and we are now all very much in the festive spirit.
The Eco Heroes had a great meeting this afternoon to discuss the on-going plans for the school! There were lots of great ideas from the team including having ‘Litter Ninjas’ in the upper school playground to ensure that no litter is left after play time and lunch time. This week the boys and girls in P2a have been looking at their new topic ‘Transport’. As part of our topic we took a survey of the traffic that passed the school. Look forward to seeing the graphs we create with this information!! Mrs Woolfries came to our class for some ‘Rhyme Time’ and we read The dragon and the nibblesome knights, we all loved the story. Primary 7 have been showing their responsible, caring and generous side, by giving up some of their lunch time to give other classes a wee treat. This week Poppy and Eilidh started their Primary 2 Art Club for children who have been working super hard in class. The girls organised a fantastic craft activity that P2 absolutely loved!
