Learning for Sustainability Week at Balornock will begin on Monday 30th April. This will be an all encompassing themed week for our pupils addressing learning within Eco Schools, RRS and HWB. Pupils will be undertaking various activities including nature walks, yoga, designing a school mascot, etc. This is sure to be an exciting week for everyone with lots of fantastic learning experiences for our pupils. We have be enjoying science week. We did an experiment with cola and milk. We also learned about a scientist who studied chimpanzees. In addition we had visitors to our class. Mrs Stuart’s sister told us about how diseases can spread and how scientist have stopped some diseases from spreading. Sean came into tell us about ships and their engines.
On Thursday 11th January, all children from P5 to P7 attended a Lego workshop where they built working models of a conveyor belt. Here is some of the feedback from the children: “I think Lego is fun, it was easy to build and I think it is amazing how Lego can do that and I didn’t know that.” “I enjoyed the Lego workshop even though I don’t really like Lego.”
What a fantastic morning at Balornock Primary. Hopskotch Theatre Company visited us to perform their Christmas Pantomime The Wizard of Oz. We all thoroughly enjoyed us and we are now all very much in the festive spirit.
The Eco Heroes had a great meeting this afternoon to discuss the on-going plans for the school! There were lots of great ideas from the team including having ‘Litter Ninjas’ in the upper school playground to ensure that no litter is left after play time and lunch time. We are also going to get the Eco Display in the main entrance decorated very soon! Watch this space for some excellent
This week was road safety week. We learned about the Green Cross Code. We also watched a film about how long a car takes to stop at difference speeds. The class also made a pledge to try and wear bright reflective clothes when outside during the winter months.
We have been learning about Spain. We know the population is 47 million people and the capital city is Madrid. For many years it was ruled by General Franco but now Felipe is the king. We also did some more Picasso inspired pictures.
As part of our topic on Spain we have been looking at the art of Pablo Picasso. We painted a guitar using different tones of blue.
