Learning for Sustainability Week at Balornock!

Learning for Sustainability Week at Balornock will begin on Monday 30th April. This will be an all encompassing themed week for our pupils addressing learning within Eco Schools, RRS and HWB. It’s All Change….

You may have noticed that some ‘new’ bins have recently appeared in our lunch hall?…. The Eco Heroes have decided to take steps towards helping minimise the amount of food being wasted in our school by encouraging everyone at Balornock to put on their Eco thinking caps when clearing up after they have eaten! We now have three separate bins in our lunch hall and would encourage everyone to use accordingly.

Lego Workshops

On Thursday 11th January, all children from P5 to P7 attended a Lego workshop where they built working models of a conveyor belt. Here is some of the feedback from the children: “I think Lego is fun, it was easy to build and I think it is amazing how Lego can do that and I didn’t know that.” “I enjoyed the Lego workshop even though I don’t really like Lego.”

Christmas Panto

What a fantastic morning at Balornock Primary. Hopskotch Theatre Company visited us to perform their Christmas Pantomime The Wizard of Oz. We all thoroughly enjoyed us and we are now all very much in the festive spirit.  

Scotland!

P5 are learning about the geography of Scotland this term. We have been learning about the location of the 7 cities in Scotland and what the map of Scotland looks like. Here is our display so far…we are going to add the rivers next. How many Scottish rivers can you name?  

Eco Committee Meeting!

The Eco Heroes had a great meeting this afternoon to discuss the on-going plans for the school! There were lots of great ideas from the team including having ‘Litter Ninjas’ in the upper school playground to ensure that no litter is left after play time and lunch time. Healthy Eating in Primary 5!

In Primary 5 we are doing healthy eating at 2:00pm everyday. We bring in fruit and water and we have a brain break while we eat it and drink it . We like to be healthy in p5 and we really want to keep it up . We hope you try it out! by Tiegan, Darcey, Melny and Kelsey P5

The Iron Man

P5 have been using VISUALISATION to draw the Iron Man after reading the first chapter. We then used SIMILES to try to describe him. We have some big Questions: Does he have a brain? Does he feel pain? Is he good or bad? We will need to read on to find out!   Here are a few samples:
