P6/5’s science week

We have be enjoying science week.  We did an experiment with cola and milk.  We also learned about a scientist who studied chimpanzees. In addition we had visitors to our class.  Mrs  Stuart’s sister told us about how diseases can spread and how scientist have stopped some diseases from spreading.  Sean came into tell us about ships and their engines.  

Gaudi Bulls

This week we have been learning about Gaudi, a Spanish architect. He used recycled broken tiles to decorate buildings. We used this method to decorate bulls.  ‘Don’t Judge a Bull by its Horns’ was our theme and we learned about how important it is to get to know someone moving beyond face value judgements using a growth mind-set.  Each piece of mosaic on our Spanish bull represents all of the characteristics and emotions we each have. Road Safety Week

This week was road safety week.  We learned about the Green Cross Code.  We also watched a film about how long a car takes to stop at difference speeds.  The class also made a pledge to try and wear bright reflective clothes when outside during the winter months.

Facts About Spain

We have been learning  about Spain.  We know the population is 47 million people and the capital city is Madrid.  For many years it was ruled by General Franco but now Felipe is the king.  We also did some more Picasso inspired pictures.  

Blue guitars

As part of our topic on Spain we have been looking at the art of Pablo Picasso.  We painted a guitar using different tones of blue.

Maths Week

During maths week we looked at how we could arrange dots to make them easy to count. We used dots to make pointillism pictures of fish and tried to count the dots on the fish.    

Kandinsky Trees

P6/5 have been looking at the work of Kandinsky.  He was an expressionist painter who explored colour.  P6/5 have been making trees with Kandinsky circles.

Active Literacy In Primary 3

In Primary 3 we have started using a new literacy resource for our phonics and spelling. We have started using magnetic boards to help us learn our sounds. We have a rule when using our boards – SAY, MAKE/BREAK, BLEND, READ, WRITE. This week we have looked at the phonemes oi, ew and ow.
