Welcome back- Term 4

Welcome back P6!

Hope you had a lovely break. These are strange times but at least the sun was shining!

We’ll be back to posting some learning ideas and suggestions regularly the blog and chatting away in the comments.

Let me know how you guys got up to over the break and if you have any suggestions or useful websites you would like to share with the class- such as Ahmed’s art lesson or some excellent History youtube websites suggestions I got  from Hubaib- let me know!

You have been doing an amazing job at keeping such positive spirits during this time. This is a time to be practising things you enjoy, getting exercise and brushing up on your reading, creating, imagining and things you love to do- while staying safe of course! Remember you are a part of history right now- classes of the future will be reading and learning about all the things you are currently experiencing!

I miss you all like crazy and can’t wait to hear about what you have been up to.

As always I am available by email

gw16websterrebecca@glow.sch.uk

or I’m also available on the comments of the blog.

Miss Webster 🙂

Friday April 3rd- last day of term 3!

Good morning P6.

so crazy to think that this is the last day of term 3! I wish we were having a class party and spending time together today, but we are all doing the right thing by staying at home. Plus our welcome back party will be even bigger 😝

Here are a few suggestions of activities you could do to keep you busy over the break, but remember this is a time for relaxation, fun and spending some quality time with the family members living in your house.

Literacy- have you ever heard of the Happy Newspaper? It’s just like it says on the tin, a newspaper that only publishes articles on stories that are happy!

www.thehappynewspaper.com

have a look and see if you can find any stories that bring you joy.
The publisher, Emily Coxhead, has created a page for you to write your own happy news. This can be something you have researched online or something you have created yourself. You can also use your artistic or photography skills to create an image to go with it. Remember: a picture speaks 1,000 words!

Science- this may be a little trickier to complete than usual,  it use your daily walk and garden to investigate!

Art- Ahmed sent me this incredible picture of his creation the other day

Isn’t it amazing?! When I asked him for the link to the video he followed, he said he created it all by himself. Impressive stuff!
What’s even more great is he has created a YouTube video explaining how he did it which you can follow here:

Have a go at recreating this style of painting and email me your masterpieces! Thanks again Ahmed!

Other- there’s always something to do!

Don’t forget to remind your parents to add St Alberts on Facebook and twitter as there will be lots going on there for them to keep in touch with other families and the teachers.

I won’t be posting on the blog over the holiday but I am always available by email and I’ll be continuing to call your parents cause I miss hearing your voices everyday (although I will admit it’s nice to hear the voices one at a time 😂).

Here’s a little message from me, just imagine I’m standing in front of the smart board saying it instead of on my couch 😝

love  and miss you all!

Thursday April 2nd

Good morning P6.

can you believe we are only one day away from the start of the Easter holidays? I know it will be different to most other holidays, but it is a good time to relax and take a break from your awesome school work that you are completing at home.

Maths- here is a version of your times tables grid. Get a family member to time you completing it, and see if you best your own score from last time!

If you managed the fractions works yesterday, have a go at these percentage questions. It seems like a lifetime ago since we learned how to solve these problems so you may want to have a look at BBC bitesize for a good explanation.

Literacy- Mr Stewart found this amazing resource from the Glasgow Libraries- the Harry Potter books are available for you to download and read or listen to, and it’s available in lots of different languages! How cool is that ?!

Have a great day!

Wednesday April 1st

Good morning and happy Wednesday P6.

today is traditionally known as April Fools Day where you would play pranks on each other but I thought this year we could be a little different and instead use this time to show acts of kindness to the people in your household.

this could be something as simple as cleaning your room without being asked to or going around the dinner table and saying one thing you love about each person. It is very easy but it will make the persons day!

here are a couple of other ideas, feel free to leave your suggestions in the comments:

1. When was the last time you hoovered? A lifetime ago? Then go for it!

2. you see those delicious meals your parents make you, they create lots of dirty dishes. Grab a sponge and offer to clean up.

3. you could nominate an adult in your house to be pupil of the day! Grab some paper and write down a list of compliments for them, you could ask other members of your household for compliments too.

4. you are old enough now that you could make you and your siblings lunch. Get your parents permission first though!

5. write a letter to someone in your neighbourhood. You could post in through their letterbox when you are out for your daily walk. Just remember to wash your hands afterwards!

here are some suggestions I found online.

of course the inviting someone new to play should be done online and not in person 😝

have fun spreading kindness, let me know how you get on!

Tuesday 31st

Good morning P6.

hope you are all doing well. Lots of you sent me emails of work yesterday and commented on the blog which is really great. It’s so lovely to hear how you are getting on and a great way to chat with each other.

here are a couple of examples of great work I was sent yesterday.

Ahmed has been working extremely hard, here are a couple of his great animations he has been working on. I’d love to hear a story or watch a video about what is happening to these guys

aliyan chose to write about the animals in the van based on yesterday’s image, isn’t it fab?!

here are some more images to inspire your imagination today. Maybe you’ll create a brilliant short story like Aliyan, or maybe you’ll do something else that is creative with these are your starter. I’d love to see and share!

what do you think is happening in these images? Maybe they are connected in some way to the literacy work you did yesterday? Did the wild animals escape the van to chase a dog being air-walked with 100 balloons?

Hubaib has asked for some maths work today which of course I will oblige this request. Remember to be using your Sumdog accounts, I have been watching the daily and weekly records and some of you are soaring through the games like champions! There is also the website maths factor.com which is updated every weekday morning with new activities for you to try.

keep sending me your stuff and any questions or requests you have.

have a fantastic day.

Monday 30th

Good morning P6.

hope you all had a lovely weekend and enjoyed some of the sunshine.
here are some tasks for you to try at home:

P.E- I hope you guys are keeping up with Joe Wicks on YouTube, I am!

if you’re finding his stuff too easy then challenge yourself to this name challenge, bonus points if you include your surname!

Literacy:

here are some interesting images to inspire you. You can write a short story, script, poem or create a drama piece with your siblings based on the image that most appeals to you.

as always, send anything you want to show off my way via email!

have a  lovely day

Miss Webster

Friday 27th

Good morning P6.

You did it! One whole week. Hope you’ve found some fun in the sunshine, kept yourself busy and have been helpful around the house.

here are some digital technology learning challenges for you to try today. Thanks to Mrs McFadden for finding this, I know some of these apps will be right up your street, particularly the coding and art ones!

as always you can email me with any questions or completed tasks or you can chat in the comments.

hope you all have a lovely weekend!

miss you

Miss Webster 🙂

Some Thursday Tasks

Good morning P6.

Hope you are all doing well and staying safe.

Here are some tasks you can try yourself today if you fancy.

Maths- Are you guys too young to have heard of Carol Vordeman? She was a host on the tv show Countdown and was known for being a maths whizz!

She has created a website which is full of maths games and puzzles which I think you’d like. It’s free to join and you can choose the areas you would like to revise (I suggest fractions and times tables)

www.mathsfactor.com

If you decide to try the course topics area you should be studying under the Adventurer or Explorer section, and strive to be a Pioneer, consider those questions the Ghost Pepper in your chilli challenge!

Literacy-

grab some headphones, get comfy and tune in to this website

www.storytimefromspace.com

The astronaut Anne McClain has created Youtube videos reading chapters of the book Ada Lace, Take Me to your Leader this week, but there are other books that have been filmed on the website you can explore. How cool is it to have a story read to you in zero gravity?! (thinking of you Mr Abdulqader!)

Remember you can send me anything at

gw16websterrebecca@glow.sch.uk

Have a great day!

Miss Webster

Happy Wednesday

Good morning P6.

Hope you are all doing well, I’m missing you all like crazy!

I have been doing lots of cooking and organising to keep me busy, as well as following the Joe Wick’s PE programme’s every morning at 9.

You should try it, it’s tougher than it looks!

youtube.com/user/thebodycoach1

My neighbourhood has also been painting pictures of rainbows and posting them in the window for people to go on a rainbow hunt while they’re out getting exercise. It’s been really fun spotting them each day while I’ve been out running:

Maybe you guys could make one to hang from your window for your neighbours to spot.

Some other things you could do:

  1. Here’s the youtube channel of the art work we were looking at in school last week. There are loads more great tutorial for you to try

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC5aRkRzYT48omDGTkPyh-mg

2. Keep up with your Sumdog, I am looking at the scores online and you are doing amazing! If any of you are having trouble accessing your account please email me and let me know.

3. Do some writing each day. Record your thoughts on this unusual experience. Your words will be of great significance when this is all over.

If you do anything that you want me to see or have any questions about the home learning packs feel free to email me at

gw16websterrebecca@glow.sch.uk

Stay safe and keep washing your hands!

Miss Webster 🙂
