Welcome back everyone!

this week we have been on another trip related to our World War Two topic. This time we visited the People’s Palace Museum for a workshop. We got to explore their exhibit and learn all about rationing from their dairy market. The instructor showed us examples of what a typical family would get for one to two weeks. It was very different to what we eat now!

we also got to see a replica of an Anderson shelter in the museum. They are so much smaller than we realised!

the museum has lots of different posters, campaigns and objects for us to look it, it was really amazing!

after we explore the exhibit upstairs we were taken to the workshop  space on the ground floor where we were split into four groups and each given a box of objects and a tasks. One group were given costumes and asked to use everyday kitchen objects to use make up that women would have used in the war. These were things like coal and baking powder. Another group were given traditional 40s medical kit and asked to use it to assist with various ailments. The third group had a large mix of items and had to choose just give to take with them to their Anderson shelter. The final group were given an item of clothing and some leaflets about make do and mend and asked to make three new clothing items out of the one dress.

our other main project this week was our social enterprise preparation. Next week we will be having visitors from our new mothers target market and so we worked on Wednesday afternoon to prepare for this event.  We created surveys, wrote scripts, designed invitations and researched support groups all related to our given target market. We can’t wait to meet people and ask questions next Wednesday!

Welcome back to another week in primary 6.

this week we have spent 3 afternoons in the hall working on a project called “I’m a scientist get me out of here!”

we have been researching different scientific experiments and this week we got to live chat with the scientists who created the experiments and ask questions. We did this on our new iPads! We then got to vote for which experiment we liked the best.

we also had two other experiments to complete this week. One was to recreate the digestive system (which Miss Webster found almost too gross to take photos of!) and the other was to use batteries and wires to motorise a car!

the other new thing we tried this week was Samba with MrMcCormack. We had great fun learning the different instruments and rhythms, turns out we all have a natural talent for playing music!

finally on Friday half of us went with Miss Webster to Scotland Street School Museum to take part in a historical classroom re-enactments. (Don’t worry, the other half of the class will also get to do this another day!)

Good morning

last week was a very bust week, so busy that Miss Webster only managed to snap a couple of photos!

in maths we are continuing our work on money by studying the concept of budgeting. Budgeting is when you have to set yourself an allowance so that you don’t over spend. To ensure you are getting the best for your budget we have been comparing prices of object both at different shops and by buying in bulk. We know this information will come in very handy in the future!

Next week we will be using our new iPads to chat and research with real scientists in an event called ‘I’m a scientist get me out of here!’ To prepare for this we have been researching the work of the scientists we will be speaking to.

finally, in literacy we have been learning how to sequence instructions. We have been reordering some pre made instructions to ensure they make sense and can be followed correctly by the reader.

It has been a busy couple of weeks here in P6.
We have started new projects this term and been on some exciting trips!

We are working in partnership with the Citizens Theatre where we will be publishing a book full of women who inspire us. This week we met Angela who will be guiding us through the project and she told us all about her work and what we will be doing. We have all chosen a woman who inspires us and we can’t wait to get started on this project!

We are also continuing our work on social enterprise with Miss Cohen this term. This week we were split into groups and each given an item. We had to come up with an idea to sell using this product that would make us a profit.
We had some great ideas from hiring out costumes and make up services to decorating apples with chocolate and sprinkles and sell them for a larger price.

as part of our World War Two topic we visited Scotland Street School Museum to learn more about the British Indian army and their volunteer work during the war. We had an amazing time seeing different objects, outfits and information to help us with our topic work.

finally we started a science project called “I’m a scientist get me out of here”. When we get our iPads we will be participating in live chats with real scientists  and so this week we learned about the role of a scientist and different skills you would need to be a scientist.
