P3/4/5 Enterprise Project

We have been busy this term organising a tuck shop which sells delicious snacks to the whole school every morning break. Our P5 girls, Ruby, Hannah and Cara, are the managers but we have all been helping to serve customers and keep the tuck shop running smoothly. We have had to practice using money so we always give the right change!

We have had some ‘special Fridays’ where we sell our own homebaking. One week we made delicious pancakes and they all sold out!

The Past by EP1/2

This term we have been busy learning about The Past. The children brought in some objects and photos from the past and we very much enjoyed looking at them and talking about them.  We were also learning about famous building from the past and we discussed what the Isle of Lewis was like in the olden days.

We can’t wait to show our work from this topic at our open afternoon on Wednesday.

Here’s a snap shot of some of our work. image 3  image 4image 6image 7

Sport Relief 2014

Our Pupil Council organised a range of different activities to mark this year’s Sport Relief and raise money for this good cause.

They began with a sports activity morning for pupils in P1-3. They had different activity stations set up around the hall and our younger pupils raced round the stations.

This was followed by an afternoon tea for parents and a football tournament for pupils. The winners of the pupil tournament went head-to-head with an elite staff team. After a close contest , the pupils pipped the staff 1-0.  All their events combined raised a total of £145.00. Thank you to the Pupil Council, especially Hannah Macleod, who led the organisation of these events.

Soccer Sevens 2014 – Dundee

Our boys who took part in the North of Scotland Soccer 7s finals in Dundee have arrived home safely. They were all praised throughout their trip They qualified for this prestigious competition by winning the local heats in Stornoway against Lewis and Harris schools earlier in the year.

In the finals they played against nine other teams from Inverness, Aberdeen, Perth, Dundee and Skye. The standard in the competition was very high and the games were tough but the boys tried their best throughout. They won two of their games and drew another two but lost five games by a small margin. Their wins included a 2-0 victory over nearest rivals Portree.

The team, James Maclennan, Euan Anderson, Lee Maclean, Hector Macdonald, Steven Mutch, David Anderson, Ross Maciver, Calum Maclennan and Andrew Macdonald, were described as being a credit to the school and the community for their exemplary behaviour, positive attitude and commitment throughout their trip and the eight games they played.

We would like to thank Mr Dano Macdonald, Mrs Lena Maclennan and Mrs Chrisell Macleod for escorting the team. We’d like to also thank Dano for training and preparing the team for the competition in recent weeks. Thanks as well to the parents of the boys who supported us with fundraising and organising the trip. Well Done boys!

EP6/7 News by Rhys MacRitchie

Every week EP6/7 are going to have a Weekly Website Whizzkid to explain what we have been up to in class for the week.  This week is my turn!

This week we were making lots of different things to go on display.  We made posters showing how to survive an earthquake and we did a news report on the tsunami that happened in 2011 in Japan. We were also talking about peace and conflict in the news.  We had to bring in a newspaper report that interested us to do with peace or conflict and write a summary of it as well as give our own opinion.

Some of the EP6/7 boys in our class went to the Soccer Seven football competition in Dundee with some of the GP6/7s.  We know some of their scores but haven’t found out their final placing yet.

Today the pupil council are doing a Sports Relief fun day.  They are doing an obstacle course for the P1/2/3 and they are also doing a tea afternoon.

Soccer 7s

All of us at Sgoil a’ Bhac would like to say a huge well done to our boys football team who were competing in the North of Scotland Soccer 7s Finals in Dundee today. They played their best throughout against some very strong and experienced opposition. Staff travelling with the team reported that they were a credit to the school and the whole community with their behaviour, attitude and commitment.  We’re looking forward to welcoming them back to school tomorrow afternoon.

We’d like to thank Mr Macdonald, Mrs Maclennan and Mrs Macleod who travelled with the boys and extra thanks to Mr Macdonald who worked for the last few months training and preparing the team.

We hope to have a full report and photos available after the team return.
