Well Done Aimee!

Aimee Prize

Aimee from EP6 was recently awarded a prize for an art competition organised by NHS Western Isles. Our pupils attended a special drama about the risks and dangers of smoking and then designed anti-smoking posters, which were then entered into the competition. Aimee was commended for communicating a clear message and creating a quality design.

She is pictured above receiving her certificate and prize from Mr Macleod and Jeanne Mackay from NHS Western Isles. Also pictured is another prize-winner from Stornoway Primary.

Book Committee Award 2015

The committee that published the ‘Sgoil a’ Bhac – Memories Through the Ages’ book that charted the history of Sgoil a’ Bhac decided to use some of the proceeds from the sale of the book to establish a prize in their name.

The new prize is awarded for excellence in the study of local history, geography or culture and was judged through the submission of special projects produced by our P7 pupils.

The first winner of the Book Committee Trophy and monetary prize was the Dux of the School, Andrew Macdonald, who’s project on the Gress River was considered to be outstanding. Highly Commended runners-up certificates were awarded to James Maclennan (Whaling), Erin Macleod (History of Back Free Church) and Ellie Macdonald (Baile Ghriais).

The school would like to thank the Book Committee for the contribution of this prize that will continue to be awarded in years to come for excellence in local studies.

Pictured below are members of the Book Committee presenting the prizes. Neil Murray also presented our special guest, Mr Fred Wildridge, with a copy of the book.

(history, geography or culture)  As well as a trophy, the winner received a financial prize.

Children were awarded prizes for sports, citizenship, leadership and academic achievement. In addition, this year saw the introduction of  new Achievement Prizes for each Gaelic and English year-group sponsored by our Parent Council.

The audience were entertained by an amazing whole-school performance of ‘Caledonia’  and our folk group and psalm precenting group also performed excellently. The ceremony concluded with the awarding of Dux of the School for 2015.
