Quiz Victory!

UPDATE: It was confirmed this afternoon that Sgoil a’ Bhac are indeed Western Isles Champions and will go on to complete in the next round in Dingwall in May.

A team of our P7 pupils took part in the National Rotary Club Quiz for Schools this week. This is the first time that the event has been held in the Western Isles. We were delighted to hear that our team were victorious in the Lewis and Harris heat and came back to school with the trophy, beating a number of teams from other island schools. We’d all like to say a huge well done to our P7 team, Luke, Tom, Hannah and Cara.

We will find out later this week if they’ve managed to qualify for the North Finals of this national event, which will be held in Dingwall next term.

Book Committee Award 2015

The committee that published the ‘Sgoil a’ Bhac – Memories Through the Ages’ book that charted the history of Sgoil a’ Bhac decided to use some of the proceeds from the sale of the book to establish a prize in their name.

The new prize is awarded for excellence in the study of local history, geography or culture and was judged through the submission of special projects produced by our P7 pupils.

The first winner of the Book Committee Trophy and monetary prize was the Dux of the School, Andrew Macdonald, who’s project on the Gress River was considered to be outstanding. Highly Commended runners-up certificates were awarded to James Maclennan (Whaling), Erin Macleod (History of Back Free Church) and Ellie Macdonald (Baile Ghriais).

The school would like to thank the Book Committee for the contribution of this prize that will continue to be awarded in years to come for excellence in local studies.

Pictured below are members of the Book Committee presenting the prizes. Neil Murray also presented our special guest, Mr Fred Wildridge, with a copy of the book.

Netball Champions!

Congratulations to our netball teams who competed in the Sports Festival yesterday evening. One of the teams made it through to the final against Stornoway Primary and won 4-2, crowning them champions. As well as congratulating the girls, we’d like to say thanks to the three parents who have given up their time every week to coach them. Thank you Mrs Macritchie, Mrs Mackay and Mrs Maciver.

Sharing the Learning at Pupil-Led Events

Today, we held our annual pupil-led events with our Sgoil Araich, E1-2 and G1-3 classes welcoming parents to visit in the afternoon and our other classes in the evening.

The children thoroughly enjoyed having the opportunity to share with parents and families the learning they’ve been doing throughout this year and we’d like to thank everyone who was able to join us during both the afternoon and the evening.

We’d also like to thank our pupils and staff for all the hard work they put into preparing for this event.
