During my work experience week I went to the Physics Department of Strathclyde University. My working hours were 10:00-15:00 from Monday until Friday. To get to the university I had to board a train at Williamwood which would take me into Glasgow central and then walk from the station to my placement.
During my placement I assisted the lab technician in setting up experiments for students working on courses ranging from advanced higher-4th year at uni. I also carried out different experiments including Kundt’s tube and Plank’s constant. I was also given various tours of the different departments like the Laser Labs and The Electronics Workshops.
While on work experience I developed many skills. One of these skills was time managing, to ensure that I was always on time for work I took an earlier train than I had to in order to give me plenty of time to arrive at Strathclyde early for my starting time. Another skill which I developed was cooperation as during my placement I had to work with a partner to help complete various experiments and equations which we were required to carry out. Another skill I developed was my map and sign reading skill as every time I got lost I was able to follow maps and sign posts to aid me in finding my way back home.
I must say that my work experience week was a spectacular experience and one that I will never forget. I will miss my daily commute into the city centre and I will definitely miss all the wonderful people that I met during my week.
