I completed my work experience at Glasgow airport and did many different jobs and activities during the week. My favourite part was working out in the airfield with the Airfield Operations Team who showed me the construction that went on around the airfield and on the runway where the planes fly in. I was taught how an aeroplane is made and the engineering that goes into it and the different roles people have at the airport. I worked in the control centre whose job is to make sure the security and check-in areas are safe and secure. They told me that across the airport there are over 5,000 people that work there with thousands of different jobs.
I worked with both the police and the fire service whilst at the airport. They showed me the procedure that would be carried out in case of an emergency and showed me skills such as using the fire hose on top of the fire engine or with the police, testing for illegal substances and ensuring nothing sharp or dangerous gets through security.
I would definitely enjoy working at the airport as this experience has made me inspired to do so as there is such a wide variety of different jobs that are offered there, from pilots to working in fire service. I would also consider going back to do more work experience at the airport in a different way and learn other jobs that people do at the airport. Overall it was an amazing experience and a brilliant opportunity that I very much enjoyed.
