If you have not already booked an appointment with your child’s class teacher you may like to do so as soon as possible as places are filling up very quickly.  If you wish to book an appointment with the Support for Learning teacher this should be done separately using the online system.

We would remind you that you will be unable to access the booking system after Sunday 5th March at midnight.

Future Me Parental Involvement

The ‘Future Me’ campaign as part of Read, Write, Count, encourages families across Scotland to share their children’s dreams for the future.

‘Future Me’ aims to support families to start a conversation with their P1-3 children about their hopes and aspirations, which will ultimately help to improve their lives in the future. It asks families to share those dreams, either as a picture, letter or film on the ‘Future Me’ wall at www.futureme.scot. The campaign builds on existing Scottish Government efforts to tackle educational inequalities and raise attainment in early years and beyond. With increasing time pressures on families, Read, Write, Count highlights easy activities built around everyday things families are already doing. Whether it’s going to the shops, travelling to school or at mealtimes, Read, Write, Count offers parents and carers simple ideas that will help children do their best at school.

For parents the prize is a personal Read, Write, Count Goodie bag filled with books, games and activities for all the family to enjoy.

The deadline to complete the survey is Tuesday 28 February.

Read, Write, Count’s new parental engagement campaign, ‘Future Me’ launches on 20th February. Future Me, as part of Read, Write, Count, asks parents and carers to talk to their children to discover what their children’s hopes and dreams are, to share those dreams on our Future Me wall and make a promise to do all they can to help their child realise their ambitions. It’s about what’s important to the children of Scotland, and parents making a commitment to help their child imagine a great future and live out those dreams. Future Me’s wall will preserve those dreams, and build a picture of Scotland’s children’s hopes and ambitions – a country that believes every child has the right to succeed, regardless of their circumstances.

Film Review Writing Competition Winner

Sam Harrison from P6 has won an award from the Into Film Roald Dahl Review Writing Competition! Last year was the centenary of Roald Dahl’s birth and Into Film invited school film clubs to screen film adaptations of his books.

Giffnock has a long standing film club and last term P6 watched lots of interesting films, including The Witches, a marvellously scary adaptation of Dahl’s novel. Children wrote and posted reviews online and all the reviews were entered into the competition. Lots of clubs from across the UK entered the competition and three winners were chosen from all the reviews. One of the three was Sam’s. Well done Sam!

Your child has received a Judo taster session in Giffnock Primary  from Projudo Head Coach, Brian Long. The idea of taster sessions within schools is to give children an opportunity to experience a new sports/activity that they may have not participated in locally. The children really enjoyed the judo session and were enthusiastic about the prospect of joining a judo club in East Renfrewshire. Projudo is offering session in a variety of locations in East Renfrewshire and full details are in the letter below:
