We look forward to welcoming you there.

Second email address

The school has been using the Groupcall email/messaging system for some time, during which we have received some requests from families for a second email address to be added to enable both Mothers and Fathers to receive emails.  As explained at the time the system could only send one email message to the “main carer” of any pupil in the school but it has now been upgraded and a second email address can be added if required (this can only be a parent/carer).

If you are registered as the “main carer” of your child and would like a second email address to be added for your partner could you please advise the school of the following details by the end of February (only requests in writing can be actioned – either by email or letter).

Name of child/children

Class/classes

Name of second contact to be added
Email address of second contact

Although this facility is being offered, please consider carefully whether you require this service as the school email database is already very large to monitor and maintain.  Please be aware that it may take several weeks to update the system depending on uptake of this facility.

food choices at lunch time

Dear Parent/Carer,

We have been asked by the kitchen staff to remind you that your child must choose an option from the lunch menu each day.

We have discussed this with the children and have reminded them that what they choose in the morning from the menu is what they will get in the lunch hall.  The kitchen do prepare the food to order and therefore have limited chance to offer any alternative at lunchtimes.

We would appreciate if you could reinforce this at home.

Many thanks for your support.

changes to lunch menu

We have been advised by the school kitchen that they will only be able to offer soup and sandwiches to pupils on Thursday 18th January as their water supply is being switched off that morning.

To enable the school kitchen to make up the sandwiches for Thursday, the class teachers will be taking pre-orders on Monday and/or Tuesday.  Could you please discuss with your child whether they wish to order a school meal that day and what filling option they would prefer (Cheese, Ham or Tuna) so that they have the information ready for their class teacher at the beginning of next week.

We have also been advised of a change of menu on Thursday 25th January to celebrate Burns Day.  Haggis, neeps and tatties will replace hot 1 chicken curry for all pupils that day, the rest of the menu will remain the same.

As the safety of our pupils is a priority at all times and following Health & Safety guidelines, can parents/ carers please remember not to ‘buzz’ other parents into the school building as everyone should gain entry via the main office door. Thank you.

Sound Sleep with Sleep Scotland

As part of our continuing work on supporting pupils in their Health and Well Being we offer a variety of information drop ins.

Last term we hosted a session on supporting communication skills and your feedback was very important as we use this to respond to commonly raised issues by offering sessions to address and support these.

From conversations and feedback, the difficulty of supporting good sleep patterns and routines was raised. As Mrs Carney is our fully trained Ambassador for Sleep Scotland at Giffnock Primary, we would like to offer our next session on this area.

We have attached an  information leaflet on Sound Sleep for further details.

Sound Sleep Leaflet

Mrs Carney will be hosting a Sleep Scotland drop in meeting on Wednesday 24th January 2018 at 2pm at Giffnock Primary in the school library.

If you would be interested in attending we would be delighted to see you.

Please contact the school office either by phone or email to confirm your interest so we know numbers for seating and refreshments.

HM Inspection of Giffnock Primary School

HM Inspectors from Education Scotland will be visiting us to conduct an inspection during the week commencing Monday 22nd January 2018.  You can find out more about inspections from the Inspection and review documentation pages of Education Scotland’s website.

This will be an opportunity for our whole school community to celebrate and share all that we do together. As part of the inspection, Inspectors gather the views of all stakeholders via an online survey which is available through:

https://forms.education.gov.scot/s/3GSOF/

I would like to encourage you to take a few minutes to complete the survey. Inspectors will also be meeting with groups of parents during the inspection, so to be part of that discussion you should complete the survey with additional links provided to indicate your interest in taking part.

You should complete the survey by 12th January 2018 for one child or for each of your children in attendance.

Last day of Term – Wednesday 20th December

We would like to extend a very warm welcome to all to join us at Orchardhill Parish Church to celebrate with the children and staff at our Christmas Service on Wednesday 20th December 2017 at 1.30pm.  If your child normally has a home lunch it would appreciated if they could remain in school on Wednesday or be returned by 1.00pm at the very latest as the children will be leaving early to walk to the church. All pupils will return to school after the service to be dismissed

Please note that the primary school will finish early at 2.30pm on Wednesday 20th December 2017 and the afternoon nursery class will finish at 4.00pm.  There will be no PM wrap sessions that day.

The primary school and nursery will resume as normal on Thursday 4th January 2018.

May we take this opportunity to wish you all a safe and happy holiday.
