Administration of Medicines in School

Parent/Carers of Nursery to P7

East Renfrewshire Council has issued new guidelines for the administration of medicines in school. The guidelines can be seen in full by clicking on the links below.

Key points to note are:

  • Parents must fill in consent form AM1 to ask for medicine to be given in school.
  • For longer term medicines, such as inhalers, this consent form will be updated three times a year, in September, January and April. This is to ensure that all information regarding dosage etc. is up to date.
  • The guidelines also require all medicines to be taken home at the end of the session so that no medicines are kept in the school over the summer holidays.

We hope that you have an enjoyable October holiday and look forward to seeing the pupils back at their normal time on Monday 24th October.

Book Fair Wednesday 5 and Thursday 6 October

Dear Parent / Carer

We always want to encourage children to enjoy reading for pleasure and that’s why we’re holding a Book Fair on our Parents’ Evenings this Wednesday and Thursday.

The Travelling Book Company Fair will be held in the Library and there are hundreds of exciting titles to browse through with your child. We get commission from every book that is bought and this commission enables us to buy new books for the library, for class topics and for class reading.

The Travelling Book Company brings a fantastic range of great children’s books right into the school for the children to explore. The range contains a balanced mix of fiction, non-fiction and activity titles, carefully put together so that there will be something for everyone. On the shelves you will find humour, action, drama, intrigue and mystery!

Children will be given a leaflet which gives an idea of the range and price of books, but there are lots more to see on the night!

We hope that you and your child will enjoy the leaflet and looking at the books on Wednesday or Thursday.

Happy reading!

Create a Smile Campaign

Children 1st has launched a Create a Smile campaign on to ask people to show Scotland’s children they all deserve lives free from abuse and neglect.

Children 1st has a long history of supporting children and families who have experienced or are at risk of abuse and would never underestimate the seriousness of it, or the damaging effects it can have throughout a child’s lifetime. The complex nature of child abuse makes it difficult for many members of the public to see how they can personally make a difference. Through the #createasmile campaign they want to encourage members of the  public to take a small action via social media to show they care about children who have and are experiencing abuse today. They will use this as a starting point to engage the public in a conversation about the many different ways people can support children in Scotland to live free from abuse and trauma.

You can support the campaign by visiting www.createasmile.org.uk  to #createasmile –  and sharing this via your social media platforms.

If you have any questions or would like more information about the campaign, please do not hesitate to contact Policy Manager, Harriet Hall: harriet.hall@children1st.org.uk

Many thanks if you have already returned the annual consent form pack to your child’s class teacher.

We had hoped to have all packs returned by Friday 9th September and therefore if you have not returned the pack could you please send this into school tomorrow.

We are also awaiting some flu immunisation forms and if this has not been returned we would again be grateful if this could be sent into school tomorrow.
