Dear parent/carer

Our Annual Book Fair will take place here in the school from Wednesday this week. The Book Fair is always lots of fun for the children, parents and teachers. It also provides another opportunity to encourage children to use and enjoy books, both fiction and non-fiction.

Kitchen Refurbishment March – April 2018

Dear Parent / Carer

I am pleased to inform you that our kitchen will be undergoing a significant refurbishment, beginning later this month. The work itself should not overly impact upon the learning environment and we will still be able to use the Blue Gym Hall for PE times and lunches.

However, whilst the kitchen is being refurbished, the kitchen staff have advised me that it will be necessary to offer a reduced menu as follows:

  • Soup
  • Sandwiches – a choice of cheese, ham and tuna will be available

The changed menu will begin on Wednesday 14th March and is likely to go on until Friday April 20th 2018.

I hope that this clarifies the matter for you,

Yours sincerely,

Rob Lawson Head Teacher

Bikeability

Dear Parent/Carer,

Every year we successfully train pupils in Primary 6 and Primary 7 in the Bikeability programme. This involves teaching children the necessary bike skills to become confident independent users who can also access roads safely.

https://www.cycling.scot/bikeability-scotland

In order to run Bikeability we require your support to undertake some training to then be able to help us deliver the programme, especially as some of the training involves on the road practise!

If you have a few spare hours free and would be able to offer us some support please contact Keith.Fergus@eastrenfrewshire.gov.uk.

Courses are run on the following dates, times and venues:-

Wednesday 14th March 2018 at Netherlee primary School from 9 am – 3pm

Thursday 15th March 2018 at Carolside Primary from 9 am – 3pm

Tuesday 27th March 2018 at Braidbar Primary from 9 am – 3pm.

Many thanks,

Kirsty Rawley

Depute Headteacher

P7 Lockerbie Manor Trip

We are continuing to monitor travel for the P7 Lockerbie trip tomorrow. P7s should come to school in the morning with their bags ready to go as previously arranged. Please do make sure that the children have packed warm clothes for the week. The final decision on travel and, hopefully, time of departure will be made in the morning. It may be necessary to delay the time of departure but, if we are able to travel,  we do not anticipate that this will affect the activities on Monday afternoon at Lockerbie in any way. Thank you for your understanding.

Lockerbie Manor P7 Residential Monday 5th March 2018

P7 Parents and Carers,

The P7 Lockerbie Residential is still planned to go ahead and Lockerbie Manor will be open, however we will continue to closely monitor the weather and advice from Traffic Scotland with regards to travel, and advise you of any changes ASAP. We will also need to confirm that the trip is going ahead, or not, nearer to the time.

Please make sure that children are well equipped for the snow and have plenty of warm clothes packed. Lockerbie Manor have advised that they are all set for the weather and will make some adjustments to the activities planned for the children where necessary.

Fairtrade Fortnight

This year Fairtrade Fortnight runs from 26th February to the 11th March 2018 and we are going to put Fairtrade in our snack.  This might include Fairtrade bananas, grapes, chocolate, cereal bars or juice!  You can easily find the Fairtrade logo on items at the supermarket, so don’t be afraid to get your children involved in the Fairtrade logo hunt.

Thanks for your participation,

The Eco Committee

Here is a link to a short video which highlights the importance of Fairtrade in an accessible and fun way.

We look forward to welcoming you there.

Second email address

The school has been using the Groupcall email/messaging system for some time, during which we have received some requests from families for a second email address to be added to enable both Mothers and Fathers to receive emails.  As explained at the time the system could only send one email message to the “main carer” of any pupil in the school but it has now been upgraded and a second email address can be added if required (this can only be a parent/carer).

If you are registered as the “main carer” of your child and would like a second email address to be added for your partner could you please advise the school of the following details by the end of February (only requests in writing can be actioned – either by email or letter).

Name of child/children

Class/classes

Name of second contact to be added
Email address of second contact

Although this facility is being offered, please consider carefully whether you require this service as the school email database is already very large to monitor and maintain.  Please be aware that it may take several weeks to update the system depending on uptake of this facility.

food choices at lunch time

Dear Parent/Carer,

We have been asked by the kitchen staff to remind you that your child must choose an option from the lunch menu each day.

We have discussed this with the children and have reminded them that what they choose in the morning from the menu is what they will get in the lunch hall.  The kitchen do prepare the food to order and therefore have limited chance to offer any alternative at lunchtimes.

We would appreciate if you could reinforce this at home.

Many thanks for your support.
