Numicon Fun!

* SUCCESSFUL LEARNERS, EFFECTIVE CONTRIBUTORS *

Miss Gemmell’s Maths streaming group completed more problem solving jobs using numicon. We had races to complete the hundred square boards before the timer ran out and also became familiar with the numicon pegs.

We played a “can you find…?” game using the number spinners and loved our final game which was a game of hide and seek using the numicon sack bag. We were delighted when we managed to put our hands in (with no peeking!) and find the correct numicon shape.

Playdoh Pasta Problem-Solving!

* SUCCESSFUL LEARNERS, RESPONSIBLE CITIZENS *

The Moonbeams class enjoyed today’s playdoh challenge. We used different shapes of Italian pasta and tried to make some hedgehogs.

We all managed to complete the challenge and made a hedgehog with lots of spikes!

We finished the lesson by looking at the e-book “Don’t Hog the Hedge”.

Pizza Parlour

* SUCCESSFUL  LEARNERS, EFFECTIVE CONTRIBUTORS, CONFIDENT INDIVIDUALS, RESPONSIBLE CITIZENS *

The Moonbeams class enjoyed making pizza on Friday afternoon. We used a giant roll out base and pupils got to cut the shape of the pizza they desired. We had squares, rectangles and triangles!

We used the back of a tablespoon to spread the passata and sprinkled the cheese on top.

We all had a turn of either putting the pizzas into the oven or taking them out and were very brave and careful when doing so.

Finally, we used a pizza cutter to cut our pizza  into slices! The pizzas got a huge thumbs up from both staff and pupils!

Counting is fun

The Transition boys numeracy lesson was outside this week where they had to find different ways to count to ten.   First they looked around the gardens and collected ten pinecones, they then split then into two groups so the total was ten. The boys discovered that there were many ways to make a total of ten. They showed that they where all  Confident Individuals and Successful Learners

library visit and theme cooking

On Monday we visited the library again and the lovely ladies read us a sensory story. We chose our books to bring back to school and they even gave us books that we could take home and keep.

On Thursday we made French toast in the cookery room. We whisked the eggs and milk together and the ladies dipped the bread in and put it in the frying pan. We even rolled the bread flat and added in some cheese. The boys were all effective contributors during this time and patiently waited their turn. While we were waiting for the French toast to cook we looked at some pictures of different foods and decided which ones we should eat less of to be healthy.

Fun With Maths

The Transition boys were Effective Contributors by identifying correct value sequence for their coins. Later in the week the boys discovered the mass of sugar in popular drinks and then weighed out the sugar into bags for a wall display. Some soft drinks have a lot of sugar in them!  All the Boys were Successful  Learners.
