Life Skills

Everyone enjoyed working on our independent life skills, we were all successful learners and achieved success in our own way.

We got our faces a little bit messy,  we posed in the mirror and had to wipe our face clean.

Each week we will be taking part in different life skills to help us be more independent and look after our bodies.

Personal Hygiene

Changing bed covers & folding clothes

We all have our own style of folding our clothes and making the bed. The boys enjoyed getting into the bed!

FAOL – Bluebells Sensory Characters

The Bluebells have been familiarising themselves with the art room. As part of their topic, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, the pupils have created a character using sensory materials.

Barry Strawberry was made using soft red cloth and crinkly yellow tissue paper. Well done everyone! Lots of hard work from these successful learners.

FAOL – Pine Sensory Topic Art

Mrs Macdonald has discovered two large boxes of scrap material and cloth in the art room cupboard.

The Pine class were able to use some of this material to make a map of Swallow Falls from the film ‘Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs’.

We enjoyed some sensory play with the larger sheets of green material before beginning the collage using various sensory materials

Lots of effective contribution today! Well done!

FAOL – Beech Apple Artwork

The pupils in the Pine Class have chosen to do a book study as their topic this term.

154422

Today we created some very expressive work in the art room. The children used apple prints to create a picture of an apple tree. We discussed the different textures of the apple and the lovely smell!

The apples were chopped into prints which would create the trunk, apples and leaves. I’m sure you’ll agree that everyone has done very well!

Excellent work from out successful learners today!

IDL – Exploring stories

Successful learners/Effective contributors

The Snowdrops have all made great responses to our new theme story about the Enormous Turnip.  Everyone has explored and handled story visual aids during story sessions.  Pupils have been able to point to story characters and pictures, and explore tactile story versions.  We have had lots of drama fun, pretending to ‘pull’ the enormous turnip as well!

Today the boys from Transition Class have been working with recycled materials to create fabulous 3D apples.

Willowbank School have been gathering 2l plastic bottles as part of our greenhouse project. The bottom part of the bottle is not required for the structure so the children used their creative skills to make these models.

  • Washing
  • Cutting
  • Tearing paper
  • Colour selection
  • Fine motor skills
  • Gluing & Sticking
  • Assembling

Wow! Excellent work by some very confident individuals!

Thank you to everyone who has donated 2l plastic bottles so far. We need a LOT more so please keep going!

New Technology in Transition

There was a slight change of plan on Wednesday afternoon when the boys in Transition got a free taster session with a Virtual reality headset. Some of the boys went Deep sea diving, up in a hot air balloon and even went wing suit flying. Patrick took the deep sea diving very seriously and was swimming about the classroom. They were all very Responsible Citizens with the equipment and were very thankful to the man who brought it in for us to try.

Good Times Ahead

Now all the boys in Transition are all settled and enjoying their time with new classmates, it was time to see what each boy was looking forward to the most for the upcoming year. There was a selection of words given to them and each boy had to make a list of things they were looking forward to being a part of around the school. (We didn’t mention the C word even though its only 16 weeks away). All the boys were Confident Individuals and have all set some very interesting goals.
