Responsible Citizens – Macmillan Cancer Support

The Transition boys were Responsible Citizens this Friday when they took part in some Macmillan Cancer Support tasks. The boys decorated a biscuit to make a head and face for a gingerbread man and then they decorated part of a swiss roll to make a caterpillar ( caterpillars seem to be a recurring theme in the class this week!)

Effective Contributors – Winter Vegetables

The Transition class were Effective Contributors when they worked in the school garden. Due to lockdown our vegetable bed was over run with weeds. They boys put in a lot of effort to dig and remove the horsetails.

The boys then planted cauliflower, cabbages and broccoli to grow over winter. They will have to use their numeracy skills to keep an eye on the weather forecast each day to watch out for frost.

Responsible Citizens – Releasing Butterflies

It was a happy/sad day in the Transition Classroom when we released our beautiful butterflies. We had seen them grown from tiny caterpillars into very big caterpillars then eventually into butterflies. The boys were Responsible Citizens when we finally released the butterflies. The butterflies hung around for a while showing off their colours in the sensory garden before flying off into the sunshine.

Life Cycles – Successful Learners

The Transition Class were successful learners when studying the life cycle of a butterfly. We started with a cup of caterpillars and the boys observed them growing in size and molting every day. The last molt revealed the chrysalis which was put into the butterfly habit. Once the butterflies had emerged the boys handled models of all the stages of the life cycle ending in our beautiful butterflies. We released them in the sensory garden (separate blog post).

Comet Class- What we’ve been up to!

It has been great to have the comet class back together after lockdown and the summer holidays. We have been really busy doing lots of different activities.

Life Skills

We have been working hard to develop lots of different life skills. We started by learning and practicing how to properly clean the classroom so that we can help stop the spread of Covid. Everyone was fantastic and cleaning all the surfaces and sweeping the floor.

Another life skill we have been practicing is tying our shoe laces. This has been very challenging but everyone in comet class has been trying really hard to get better.

Art

There have been lots of different art projects on the go so far this year. We have made a Jungle book wall display, sun catchers,  and we are making a Minecraft world out of old cardboard boxes. It has been very messy but lots of fun.

Science

There have been lots of fun science experiments so far this year as well. below are photos of an experiment we did to see how soap works. We learned that germs don’t like soap and will move away from it. Thats why we need to use soap to wash our hands.

It has been a great couple of weeks in Comet class and everyone is excited for the rest of the year 🙂

Pine is in the Pink!

Hello!!

We are all being Responsible Citizens and learning about Bees as part of our Science project – bees are so important for the environment. This week planted some pansies to put outside our classroom to see if the few bees that are still about were attracted to them!

Continuing our Interdisciplinary Learning (IDL) and our Rainbow Theme, we have moved onto the colour Pink and started a new story called ‘The Flamingo that didn’t want to be pink’. It is a lovely story, and you guessed it, the baby flamingo did not want to be pink!! We all picked the animal in the story that we liked best, a zebra, a parrot or even a chameleon.  And then we played a number game of finding the numbers on the bottom of flamingos.

We have been Successful Learners and done lots of different Colour Sorting and matching activities.

Checking out the new fan from our Weather Box, it creates better wind than the last one.

Here is the winner of Wednesday’s Domino’s – a very excited boy!!!

This has been a busy and very quick week – we hope you all enjoy your long weekend and are looking forward to seeing you all again on Tuesday.
