Highlights of our Week

We have a right to share our thoughts freely  UNICEF Article 13.  We enjoyed  listening to a story called, ‘What to do with an idea’.  The moral of the story was to share your ideas with everyone and say what you are thinking.  So we made a silhouette picture of our head and put jigsaw puzzles inside for our ideas.  In the Oak class we are regularly encouraged to share what we think.

We enjoy working on our reading skills every week, we are becoming confident individuals at reconsigning the familiar words that are repeated throughout the story.

Everyone in the Oak class loves pizza, we played a pizza topping game with friends to increase our memory skills.  Some of us could remember three toppings others could remember up to five toppings.

We were successful learners when following the music to play some of our favourite songs, this week we played ‘I Love my Life’ and ‘Three Little Birds’.  Everyone was actively engaged in the music lesson.

We enjoyed our outdoor PE lesson, we were working on our basketball skills.  We were confident individuals when trying to dribble and shoot as independently as possible.  Everyone focused their attention and listened to the advice given to make their performance better.

Work Work Work

This week in the Oak class we have been focusing on our topic work.  We have created a seasonal tree for our wall display.  We were successful learners when we were working on google maps, distance and directional awareness.  Everyone responded positively to the activities set and actively engaged.

We learnt that Mr Burt has the longest drive to work and Blake has the shortest drive to work.

Hard at Work

Since coming back in August everyone in the Oak class have been busy as usual.  We are so happy to be back together and also being able to share all our work on the blog.  We have all been successful learners and confident individuals getting back into school routine and building up our stamina for learning again.  Here are some photos of the work we have been doing so far;

Cameron, Jack and Sam are happy to be back at school with their friends.

We enjoy daily exercise which includes cosmic yoga and a 20 minute run / walk.  The running and improved stamina is getting very impressive.

We have been working hard on our time telling skills, matching analogue to digital. Also we have been doing some problem solving activities.

Our theme topic is the ‘Great Outdoors’, we have been enjoying taking part in all the activities related to our book, ‘A Camping Spree with Mr Magee’.

Throughout the week we take part in set games to encourage turn taking and interacting with our peers.

Macmillan Coffee Morning

The Oak class were all effective contributors when preparing and making our class coffee morning take place.

Everyone had a collective responsibility to ensure the tables were cleaned before setting the table and decorating our swiss roll to create our version of a caterpillar cake.  Cameron named it ‘Coby the Caterpillar’.

Everyone was actively engaged in all the tasks and even more engaged when it came to enjoying the cake with a cup of hot chocolate.

Prom Week!

Well, everyone, it is the week of Prom. In school, we would have been taking part in activities related to Prom.  So here are some you can try at home.

Cooking

Can you make some cupcakes for Prom day to enjoy as a treat.  Literacy skills will also be used in this task.  Listen to the adult reading the recipe and then follow the instructions.  Below is the recipe then you can choose to decorate them any way you like.

Art –

We would have made some tissue paper flowers in school and gave it to someone special.  Try and make some of these beautiful flowers at home.  Then choose who you give it to, you could go your daily walk and drop it at their doorstep.  This will make someone’s day be very special. Click here to find a tutorial on how to make the flowers.

Also, we will find out who has been made Willowbank Prom King and Queen 2020. Can you make a crown at home and model it around the house.  It can be made from paper of natural items you find out on your walk.

Literacy –

Draw a large circle on a piece of paper, think of everyone that has been in your class this year.  Can you write all their names inside this circle, don’t forget the adults too! Can you sign their names, by fingerspelling their first initial of their name.  If you need some help click on the link below to find out how to sign the letters.

Fingerspelling

Can you get an adult to draw an outline of a person and, think about what you would wear to prom. Can you design an outfit, or from your wardrobe pick out the best clothes that you think would be suitable to wear to prom.

Music –

Friday is Prom day, however, if you want to practice some of the dances then below is some from the playlist;

Casper Slide

Hokey Cokey

Conga

Have fun and if you complete any of the activities please email them and we will share on the school blog.
