FAOL Whole School Project/ Citizenship- Burns Activities

We enjoyed celebrating Burns Night last week through creating our own Scottish tartan and having a mini ceilidh within our class.

We were confident individuals as we tried out new dance moves, and were successful learners as we applied our knowledge of Scottish tartan to make our own designs.

FAOL Science

The Sungazers have been learning about vibrations and sound waves as part of their science sessions. Mr Dreghorn kindly brought in some fantastic musical instruments for us to explore.

The first was a Theremin which we played using our hands to vary the sound waves. Ryan was a natural and everyone enjoyed using this the best.  We also used an Ottomatone, a Stylophone, a Flexitone and a Tambura…. lots of new sounds for us to explore. We all enjoyed making lots of noise!!!

Focused Areas of Learning – Eco – Quality Education – What Makes Willowbank School Great?

* SUCCESSFUL LEARNERS, RESPONSIBLE CITIZENS *

This term, we are looking at the global goal Quality Education. We looked closely at our school. We recognised our school badge and made an attempt at drawing this.

We also looked at all of the activities and specialist rooms we have in Willowbank School and sorted them into activities that made us happy or sad.

As a class we ALL agreed that we love coming to Willowbank School and think that it is great!

FAOL Enterprise

For our school Christmas market all classes make something to sell. We decided to make hot chocolate reindeer. All pupils were able to pour hot chocolate into the cone shape bags. Most pupils were able to stick on the details to add faces to our designs. Some pupils were able count an amount of marshmallows for each cone.

FAOL – Science

We investigated candy canes. We held them in our hands feeling whether they were hard or soft. We hung buckets on the end of our candy canes and then filled the buckets up to see how many objects the candy cane could hold. We then put the items back in the box counting them as we went. It was great fun.

Focused Areas of Learning – Sciences – Fluffy Snow Slime

* SUCCESSFUL LEARNERS, CONFIDENT INDIVIDUALS *

The Bluebells class had great fun making fluffy snow slime today. We mixed the ingredients and all enjoyed touching and kneading the slime. We attempted to roll snowballs and squash and stretch the “snow” and found some hidden Winter and Christmas themed items.

Focused Areas of Learning – Whole School Projects – Christmas Show – Away in a Manger

* SUCCESSFUL LEARNERS, CONFIDENT INDIVIDUALS, EFFECTIVE CONTRIBUTORS, RESPONSIBLE CITIZENS *

The Bluebells class have been working really hard this term on our Christmas nativity. We have all taken on a role of either mice or spiders, have learned the words and signs for many songs and have been practising dances related to the story.

We have now moved our rehearsals to the Gym Hall and we are all coping really well with this and are looking forward to you seeing the final result.
