Willowbank School, KilmarnockAs part of digidabble week. The Transition boys were allowed to choose a literacy game on the touch screen. The boys chose ‘Hang Mouse’ a word guessing game. The boys did their hardest not to be caught by the cat! The boys were all Successful Learners when they chose letters to fill in the missing word.
During the lovely weather the Transition boys had a Nature Scavenger Hunt. They were all Effective Contributors as they hunted around for items and shared their answers in the group. The reward for such hard work was a quick shot on the swings before returning to school.
As a part of Digidabble week the Transition boys used their literacy skills to look at song lyrics to try and recreate a well known music video. The boys sat in the shade of the sun to plan their story board. They then used a digital camera to film it on a different day. A link to the video will follow next week but can you guess what song we were looking at? No prizes for the winner unfortunately!
The boys combined outdoor learning with National Digital Learning week. #NDLW19 We went on a colour hunt in our sensory garden and used the iPad to take pictures of the colours we found. When we returned to the classroom we put the pictures taken on the SMARTboard so all our friends could see the pictures we had taken.
The Sunflower boys have been very busy this week using a range of different digital technologies. We use our SMARTboard daily for morning group and also for lots of different maths activities. We use a number of different programme to support our maths learning “Counting songs” regularly and this week we used the “Number run”. The boys really enjoyed the sound effect of the Number run programme. We also used the Beebots and pressed the buttons to make the Beebot move from one place on the mat to another. We used to iPads to play games and got to experience the story headphones to listen to different sounds.
We had our very first whole class outing to the Kay Park this week! We were very responsible and safe out in the community and took care to observe the rule of the road on our walk. The girls in particular looked after each other, which was lovely to see.
The Beech class are learning about poverty as part of our ECO topic. This has lead us to learn about different countries in Africa. So far, we have explored where Africa is and some aspects of the different cultures. We used Google translate to hear what our names sound like in Swahili and Afrikaans, explored African music and dance, made our own version of the South African flag, culture and finally learned a bit about what life is like in parts of the world that don’t have technology.
We were very responsible trying to think about what aspects of life are represented in each photo taken in Africa. All of the photos represented an aspect of life without technology such as plumbing, TV, a cooker or a washing machine.

After learning about how African life is different to life in Scotland we decided to try to design our own toys, just like they do in Africa, using only natural or recycled materials. We made a boat and a car! We decided though that we much prefer having technology. we are very lucky!
Starting to make Maasai warrior shields for our boys while the girls explored African jewellery and dress!
We had lots of fun this week learning through ICT and experimenting with different types of ICT equipment in school. #NDLW19

The girls really enjoyed practising our poritional language through the use of BeeBots.

The boys played snakes and Ladders with digital dice!
We used a ‘Chatter Block’ as a talking dice that told us upon rolling it which number to find on the ground and then instructed us how to travel to it!

The Moonbeams class finished off Digidabble Week, with a final challenge. They were split into teams and had to go around the school looking for different technology items. If they found an item on their list, they had to take a photograph of it on their iPad. There was an additional challenge in that we were not allowed to go into the same room twice. This caused us to explore all over the school for these items.
